Design, life, my house

the one with kitchen dreams

We recently bought a house here in our new state of Indiana. I’m so happy to be a homeowner again especially because it means we get to do renovations again! We loved doing our first house, and never felt like it was complete before we had to leave and move to Florida.  The only major renovation that needs to happen is the kitchen. Right now the plan is to do that next summer once I’m not pregnant anymore. Then we’ll do some small bathroom renovations (mostly just updating vanities) and finally we’ll tackle the outside.

Next summer seems far away, but if you know me you know I already have a plan. So today I wanted to share part of that plan for the kitchen. This is of course just the rough draft so updates are sure to come. I want to keep things simple, bright, and clean in here. So whites cabinets, concrete counters, stainless steel handles and appliances, and simple tile floors. Then we’ll break up all the cool colors with some wood shelves and a butcher block island. The thing I’m most undecided on right now is how high to take the cabinets. I know it looks more gourmet to have them all the way to the top, and it’s no wasted space. But I cant’ see myself every using them . . .

We have really great appliances and a huge pantry already, and only a small space for an island (no space for anything built in or with electricity supplied)  so this won’t be that big of an ordeal. Just changing the cabinets, counters, and backsplash basically!

I’m mostly looking forward to te new sink! The faucet we have no doesn’t have  a sprayer or detached head . . . it’s so hard to clean dishes #firstworldproblems.
