DIY, life

the one with chalk paint

Chalk paint has been all the rage on pinterest now for awhile, but I have yet to use it. To be honest, I didn’t even know what it was or how it was different than usual paint. So I finally looked it up! It’s just a furniture paint that makes it easier on the painter. It doesn’t require primer, is easy to cover if you change your mind, and gives everything that vintage look we all love without too much work. I recently decided to dip my toe in the water of chalk paint and wanted to show you the results!

I found this frame at goodwill for $3 a few years ago, and painted the glass with chalkboard paint. The details on it are stellar so I didn’t touch the actual frame at all. But over time I kept thinking I needed to. We have zero black in our house (except the dining room table, but it just seems to fit). All of the other frames are silver, gold, or white. So this one stuck out like a sore thumb sometimes. Chalk paint seemed like the best idea once I researched it. Everyone promised it would make the details pop even more.

I followed this tutorial to a tee (two coats of paint). It is pretty easy just like everyone said. And the details do pop just like everyone said. I’m also really happy with the parts where the black pops out.

In the end, I honestly don’t really think I’m a total convert yet. Luckily, I have a big beautiful new to me but very old piano I need to bring some life too 🙂
