Links I love: December 2016

How pumped are we that it’s December!? Christmas! I’m obviously happy. For today tho, here’s 5 links I love that have nothing to do with the holidays, especially Christmas! We all need a break sometimes so we don’t stress out. Ha! Just kidding . . . I know we’re already stressed. Then these can just be for fun!

  1. star sweater – My last name is STARk so I decided that baby boy’s shape would be a star. Yes I chose him a shape, and an animal. It’s a lion. Now I’ve decided I need all of the stars as well.  Therefore, I need this sweater.

2. My husband and I don’t eat around the table together every night, but it’s something we both very much want to do once Jack starts eating real food and in his high chair. It’s awhile down the road before we’ll be able to do this, but I love this little ritual!

3. Going to Paris is a big dream of mine so this article is now officially saved to my favorites!

4. I need these. Velvet is very in obvious, but I just can’t get into it. I don’t know why. Suede shoes are good enough, right!? I know, very different.

5. Finally, Just because I can 🙂

the one with mommy’s 2 month update

It’s crazy once you give birth people you think people will stop asking you about your weight and what you’re eating. But they do not. Is he sleeping through the night? Are you sleeping when he’s sleeping? OMG how much weight have you lost? Sometimes I want to scream none of your business, but I know they mean well. So here’s mommy’s 2 month update so everyone can just go ahead and get your answers here .  . .

Height: Boobs are heavy. Also, epidural makes you constipated which makes it hard to stand up straight. (My husband is already mad about this post.) I think I’m getting shorter.

Head: My hair is no longer voluminous. WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN? It hasn’t started falling out yet tho – probs because of the prenatals I’m still taking. My mind tho did go a little wonky for a couple weeks. I was on high alert looking for post partum depression because of my families history. I was SUPER sad about everything, but no PPD. My dad going back to Indiana is the most devastating thing that has ever happened to me (sarcasm). Scott would coo at the baby and I would get PISSED because he did it wrong (sarcasm). So my ridiculous mood swings made a big come back after disappearing during pregnancy. I’m happy to report that mama has mellowed out again.

Weight: Remember that episode of How I Met your Mother when Lilly is so stressed out she loses a bunch of weight and doesn’t fit in her wedding dress. Let me go into details here . . . In 2015 I lost 40 lbs for my best friends wedding. Then I got pregnant in January 2016 and stopped tracking. The first trimester I was sick and couldn’t eat a lot of the time. The first and third trimesters I was suuuuuuper tired so I was only awake to eat breakfast and dinner. I also chugged water – like 120 ounces a day. I only gained the weight of the baby and placenta.

I’ve continued the water, Jack and I go on a mile walk most days, and I’m breastfeeding. So all that to say I am 20 lbs less than I was in November 2015. Yes, you read that correct. I weight less than I did when I got pregnant. Did the detail make you hate me any less?

Nicknames: mama, mommies, milk machine

Sleep: I have learned to live on 5 hours of sleep. I go to bed when he does at 930 which officially makes me a loser. We usually only wake up at 230 for about an hour. Then I wake for the day at 530 so I can pump and shower before daddy goes to work. I am so grateful for this hour 530-630. It makes my days infinitely better, but I know it makes Scott’s mornings a bit longer than he enjoys. However, the white noise we use for the baby And so I show my appreciation by not actually getting up at 530. But sleeping until 630 and then rushing around before daddy leaves for work. You might ask why don’t I do these things during his morning nap . . . I use that to do all of the other things.

Feeding: Breastfeeding ain’t no joke!’ I do still enjoy franks hot sauce which I did not before. I’ve had more insane cravings since I gave birth than I did while pregnant. Breakfast pizza, bagels with butter and jelly, pumpkin pie, coffee, oatmeal cookies, eeegggs on anything with anything just eggs.

Fun Stuff: I thought being a mom would make me feel different. Like I was a totally new person. But it hasn’t. I feel the same. It’s not a bad thing. I actually think it’s a really good thing. Scott and I are still the same people we’ve always been. Jack is just a part of that now. He fits into our lives so perfectly. I love being a mom. I love being Jack’s mom.The Holiday’s are infinitely so much better even tho he’s only 2 months.

If it’s changed anything, it’s just that my each and every day has a purpose now. To do lists get done better and on time, the house stays cleaner, meals are cooked and eaten instead of wasted . . . all the little things that don’t mean anything. They mean something now because my boy is watching. My hair isn’t voluminous anymore, my hunger is never satiated, my nipples suck so bad right now (pun intended), I’ve only seen 2 movies in the last 3 months, and my digestive system may never regulate itself again. But I’ve never been more happy. deliriously happy.

the one about pregnancy and fatherhood

My husband is surprisingly very calm about having a baby, however he still has major opinions on almost everything pregnancy and fatherhood. Everyday I get the questions – how much water have you had? have you sat on your pregnancy ball today? how much is he moving? etc, etc.  I did expect this and  I’d rather have it this way than he act like he doesn’t care at all. But some of his opinions are surprising, and lots of them are actually pretty funny – especially his opinions on the babies clothes. Today I wanted to pass along some laughs and share some of his funny takes on pregnancy and fatherhood.

1. If a baby girl doesn’t have hair, why does she need a big bow in her hair? it serves no purpose! *under his breath* hopefully that’ll go out of style by the time we have a girl

2. Why does everybody keep buying him clothes with stupid sayings on them? He’s a baby not a commercial.
He can only wear his bow ties on special occasions. Like Easter Sunday special.
me – what about if we’re at home, but I put him in a diaper and a bow tie for me.
I still don’t like it. but ok

3. Can I post a picture of you eating watermelon and say don’t eat the seeds?
me – sure! pregnant girls do that all the time. it’s funny.
WHAT!? How am I not the first one to come up with this.
me – we can still do it
It’s too ridiculous now.

4. I don’t think I’ve ever had heartburn before what does it feel like.
me – like your esophagus is on fire. like it’s burning around your heart and blood is in your mouth
*very calmly but with a terrified look on his face – ok

5. And since I haven’t mentioned my boyfriend on the blog in much too long. Scott recently decided to get a new hair do and asked for a picture of what I would prefer. As I passed him the picture, he says . . .
If this is a picture of Leonardo DiCaprio I’m gonna be so pissed.

Life update from Indiana!

I was in Indiana- where I’m from – for almost 2 weeks. I’m not interested in racing, but the husband is so I have an appreciation. And the city just comes alive at the end of May every year – some see it as the worst time of year. But for me it’s always been the start of summer with a HUGE event that doesn’t make Indiana look like idiots. Unless you’re in the snake pit . . . Here’s the 5 best things that happened.

1.corn. I got to eat some Indiana corn.

2. We celebrated my shower – which I talked about Monday – and we also celebrated my best friends baby boy who comes about 2 weeks before ours. I’m so glad I got to be there and celebrate with her.

3. One of my nephews and his girlfriend graduated from high school! Just super proud 🙂

4. I got to see this girl 🙂 She’s got big things coming in her life and I’m so excited for her!

5. This happened after the trip, but it counts. We had another ultrasound to see our baby boy Tuesday. I immediately regretted this decision when I didn’t get home until midnight from the airport and then had to be at the doctor with a full bladder 8 hours later. But I changed my mind pretty quickly 🙂 If he could just be here already so I can put him in the loafers I bought him.

the one about 18 weeks

How far along? 18 weeks
Maternity clothes? living in maternity shorts and long tank tops.
Sleep: I’m still really tired a lot of the time so sleep is good, but I think he’s waking me up with his kicks. And my bladder definitely wakes me up at least once a night.
Best moment: watching daddy put Jack’s crib together.

Miss Anything? I know I can eat cooked sushi, but the raw stuff is my favorite so we’ve been avoiding all together. I just really, really want some spicy tuna.
Movement: I feel more and more everyday, especially when I lay down for bed.
Food cravings: Nothing specific, but if I’m hungry I need food NOW – heartburn, headaches, hanger will all appear if I don’t eat quickly. But then I fill up my plate and eat like a quarter of it and spend the rest of the night in agony over how full I am.
Anything making you queasy or sick: nothing really. raw ground beef still kind of gets me, but I cooked some up all by myself last week which I haven’t been able to do since February.
Gender: boy!

Symptoms: acne, dry skin, frequent urination, super tired … all of them, but I’m either used to it or none of them are super bad because I feel great.
Belly Button in or out? in and looks no different
Wedding rings on or off? on

Happy or Moody most of the time: I can feel the roller coaster of emotions everyone talks about coming – mainly because about once a week I get really ticked off at Scott for stupid reasons – like when Jersey Mike’s couldn’t get me a gift card and he didn’t have time to talk to me because he was in a meeting at work. I hung up on him, cried a little, threw my phone into my purse, and pouted when he got off 20 minutes later. total adult, right here. But mostly – 90% of the time – I’m happy. He verified this answer.                                                      Looking forward to? May is a big month. We have an ultrasound next week, we go home to Indiana, have our shower, I go to the dentist . . . May is gonna be so much fun!

Life updated April 15th

Life has been pretty boring lately, but my mom said I never tell her what’s going on in life. So here’s a quick little life update April 15th! What’s going on with you?

  1. My sister came to see my last week during my nephews spring break, and it was super glorious. Just a couple days spent at the beach, laughing with my sister, and watching her drink a couple cocktails. A little break was perfect 🙂 and I guess it was good to see my seester

2. Still very much pregnant. And I love it. Sure I’m tired a lot and there’s lots of weird symptoms, but it’s mostly the best knowing my sweet boy is growing inside me. Second trimester update was up on the blog yesterday 🙂

3. Fun fact, I’ve played the piano since I was about 10ish – maybe younger I can’t remember. I’ve never played in a band or even in public for the last 10 years, but recently I’ve pulled it out again. I’m even playing in a band with some friends. It’s been a great way to keep myself motivated, creative, and my brain flowing lately 🙂

4. Living in a sleepy beach town means winter and spring break makes everything and everywhere super busy. I’m so glad it’s all over, ya’ll. I’m ready to have my sleepy beach town back and no lines at the movie theater.

5. Just gonna leave this here because what’s a life update without a Leo update. Nothing . . . it is nothing.

the one about the first trimester

FullSizeRender (2)

When I first started blogging, Jessica Garvin was the first blog I read regularly. Her pregnancy updates with Harper were my favorite day of the week, and I dreamed about the day I’d get to do the same. AND THAT TIME IS HERE! I hope you guys enjoy reading them as much as I do, and that mine are as interesting as hers! If you don’t, don’t worry I’m not gonna do them every week 🙂 Here’s all about the first trimester. . .

How far along? 12 weeks
Maternity clothes? I bought some shorts and a dress on sale. I don’t really need them yet, but they are the best things I’ve ever worn so I wear them a lot. All my old clothes still fit, although not the same – and belts with my jeans are the worst idea EVER.
Sleep: getting better. I’m incredibly tired all the time, but for the first few weeks sleep was hard to come by.
Best moment: seeing the baby move at our first ultrasound

Miss Anything? sushi specifically spicy tuna. I’m not a big drinker, but I would kill for a Moscow mule right now.
Movement: the Dr. says he/she moves a lot, but I’m not feeling it yet.
Food cravings: croissantwhiches from burger king, spaghetti, now n laters but specifically the kind from the dollar tree
Anything making you queasy or sick: the smell of raw ground beef
Gender: we find out this week!

Symptoms: dry skin, nauseous, headaches, super tired, superhuman smelling, tender breasts . . . all of them
Belly Button in or out? in
Wedding rings on or off? on

Happy or Moody most of the time: happy most of the time! much more chill than usual actually. but every now and then I feel the need to cry . . . for no reason.
Looking forward to: telling everyone the gender!

the first one about the baby

Thank you for all your sweet words on the impending arrival of our new baby! It’s so great know we have so many great people sending happy thoughts and prayers our way. Today I wanted to share how we told everyone! This is my first kid so I’m excited, bare with me 🙂 I’ll try to keep it short and sweet.

At the end of January, I flew to Indiana at the last minute to get our house there ready to sell. I painted, cleaned, did electrical work, saw all my friends and family, kept up with the blog, SOLD the house,  – basically I was waayyyy too busy, had way too many drinks, and way too much coffee for a pregnant lady within 5 days. My cycle is always very regular- like besides a few times in life when I went through some changes I could tell you the time of day I would begin 4 days from hell. So while sitting at the airport flying back to Florida sipping my 4th cup of coffee that day I realized I was 2 days late and obviously was pregnant.  On the way to our house from the airport I picked up some pregnancy tests to be sure, and the lady who checked me out asked if it was a good thing. Why would you ask the woman buying pregnancy tests anything? What if it’s not a good thing? Anyhoo, I ran home right passed my husband on the couch to the bathroom  took the tests and they instantly . . . instantly . . . confirmed I was pregnant. I cannot stress the instant enough. I skipped into the living room after grabbing this onesie I was saving to surprise my husband with and said ‘hey I got you something in Indiana’. He calls me boo so the baby is little boo 🙂 He started laughing, and I don’t think it’s sunk in that his firstborn is currently growing in my belly. Also, pregnancy tests are gross, but this is the only picture I have from that night.

I did tell my niece and my bestie – my niece has had 3 babies and is like a sister to me so she was my girl to call and I knew she’d talk me off an the edge when my symptoms got crazy – and my bestie is having a baby AT THE SAME TIME so I had to tell her! We didn’t tell anyone else for 6 weeks, and it nearly killed me. We live 1200 miles away from our nearest and dearest, but still wanted to make it special – this is the 10th grandchild for my parents and the 1st for his – so we overnighted them all something special in the mail.

my parents – My dad has been helping my husband and I lot a lot lately. Especially with our house in Indiana so we bought him a bible to say thanks! THEN when we found out we were having a baby we decided to have this verse engraved on it and included an ultrasound inside! FullSizeRender

his mom – She keeps saying ‘I’m so happy for me’ haha!

our siblings – my brother had the perfect reaction – that **** got my sister pregnant. We’ve been married for 3 years, brother. IMG_7965

So that’s how we told our family! Everybody else saw the announcement you all did on Wednesday – they just saw it a few days before 🙂 Next up is our gender reveal! Tell me how you told your friends and family the babies gender – I need creative ideas!

the one with an explanation

I’m sure some of you have noticed that I’ve cut back on blogging and social media lately and if you haven’t . . . well, it’s good to know you have a life that’s not taken up by the internet, I guess. Today I just wanted to give an explanation why and where my heads at . . .

I’m also sure that all of you looked at the picture before reading anything I had written. Thanks for ruining the surprise. Iron Man and I are having a baby. We’re 12 weeks along and things are going great (well, the babies ok so that’s great). We’re excited and thrilled and amazed and he’s a little scared all at the same time. I don’t have the energy to be scared anymore. I won’t talk about the baby much, but as a fashion blogger I can’t hide the fact that I’m pregnant either, ha! So there will be pregnancy updates starting on Friday! Talk to all of you then! In the mean time check out this HelloFresh giveaway!

Fun things around the niche

The end of a long week has finally come. The weekend is here. Let’s all sit back and let out a huge sigh of relief. Here’s some fun things that have been happening at the niche while you relax . . .

1. Patches and pins are making such a huge comeback right now. I haven’t figured out how to mix them in with my personal style, but I love it all the same. All of these are available over at ShopBop.

2. Leo won the globes you guys. not just a globe, but the whole event. I bought a clutch the next day called the leo clutch . . . I might have a problem. My favorite part of the whole event can be found here #sideye.
3. My niece/little sister (long story) came to see me, and we found all kinds of fun, hipster, young people places in our little retirement community of a town! Seeing this place through new eyes was wonderful, and spending time with her was better.
4. I’m terrible with words, especially when someone amazing passes so I’ll just leave this here.
5. who wants to do this with me? get motivated for the new year!?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! This weekend is going to be full of the grill and some laid back time with the husband for me. What do you have in store?
