Archives for October 2017

Month: October 2017

the one with our halloween costumes 2017

Our Halloween costumes are quite simple this year – except for Jackers. We decided quite awhile ago we wanted him to be Chucky Finster from Rugrats. Chucky is the funniest character – especially when you’re older. Plus he has red hair like Jack!

Daddy and I weren’t going to dress up. But we were going to a party so we threw together a couple more 90’s cartoon character get ups! Scott is Doug Funny and I am Ashley Spinelli. I did decide too late to get the perfect tights so my costume isn’t perfect! I never thought we would do a family costume. Scott and I could never get it together for a couple’s costume so why would it change with kids!?! But family costumes may officially be part of our thing now! It was so much fun! Pictures were hard to come by because he was on the move the whole time. He also hates wearing glasses 🙂 So I added a couple pictures of our pumpkin this year as well!

the one with our new master bedroom

The real story behind these pictures is I finally got our comforter back from the dry cleaners so I made the bed for the first time in many months. Then I thought . . . being perfectly clean isn’t gonna happen for awhile  . . . let’s take pictures! I should probably act like this is always how it looks, and I took them specifically for this post. But we all know that’s not being honest. Who makes their bed everyday!?! Those people are few. Plus I like to keep it real around here. I do want to show you guys our new house so it worked out!

My favorite part is definitely my dresser. I feel like a little old lady with all her knick knacks, which is a life goal to eventually be that lady. My second favorite part is our new headboard and rug which are perfect and amazing and perfect and amazing.

I love our bedroom, and had zero things I wanted to do in here until I saw these pictures. Now I feel like the tv wall needs something extra. What do ya’ll think!?

Also, If you want to know where anything is from just ask. Most of it is antiques, Target, or Amazon (rug and headboard which I LOVE and are perfect!)

the one with Jack at 13 months.

I know some people think once a baby is 1 year you just say he’s 1 year. But there is so much change happening every month still. Plus he’s still my only kid so I’m gonna do this for another and then I’ll just say he’s 2 and leave it at that . . . But I did change up the way we take his pics 🙂

Height:  30 inches

Head: 47.5 inches

Weight: 22 lbs

Nicknames: Dumplin, jackster, jack jack, sweet pea

Sleeping: Sleep is still going really well. There have been some cold nights so we added a warmer blanket. I freaked out a little to be honest. He’s does not like sleep sacks, and has just been sleeping in pj’s, socks, and had a breathable blanket with him. So having a blanket that could harm him was very worrisome for me. He’s a big boy. He knows how to pull them down and we’ve taken all the safety precautions. And my bestie Rachel talked me through it, and we’re doing well so far.

Feeding: Stlll really great! He never liked whole milk so we introduced 2% and he loved it. But then he got pretty sick, and our doctor said to back off. But other than that he still eats all the time, and will eat anything you put in front of him. If he doesn’t like he just puts it on the floor. So helpful.

Fun Stuff:  We’re standing and balancing all on our own! And we’re walking with the help of mama and dada’s hands. He can’t quite get from sitting to standing, but once he does he’ll be walking. He LOVES to watch movies and listen to music. Trolls is his favorite. He’s interacting with his toys more and trying to communicate back to them. He’s also trying to communicate more with people. I’ve always used sign language type things to get him to tell me what he wants. But never really pushed him to use them as well, but he’s starting to now. He’s also mimicking us when speaking. Like I’ll say do you want to get down and he’ll go daaa. I’ll say ‘do you want yogurt’ and he’ll go “yaaa  baat” And he’s working on his s’s. He loves to dance and read and still hates cuddling.

Jack was also officially sick for the first time. He had strep throat, fever, and upset tummies. Which is why we stopped the 2% milk. He barely noticed I think. The sore throat and diaper rash was all he noticed. Our hopeful last glaucoma appointment is next month.

5 pieces 1 outfit : winnie the pooh

rHey friends! 5 pieces 1 outfit is a twice monthly series where we feature 5 pieces that bring together 1 perfect outfit. It doesn’t take a lot of time, money, and or pieces to create a fashionable look that anyone can create. 5 pieces is all you need to make another outfit killer. First, I find it’s best to have a theme so you have a place to build from. That can be a color combo or maybe even an event. But most of all you just need a good base piece. This week’s theme is winnie the pooh! If I were to be anything for Halloween this year, I’d be winnie the pooh. I just think it’s a super cute costume for a pregnant lady, and I have a craving for Disney stuff. Of course, the best part is that all of this is $50!

Life update October 2017

After a crazy July, stagnant August, and insane September, life has finally fallen into a nice routine again. You know I can’t get enough of my routines! Our new house is mostly done and Scott in his new job! We’re eating at home most days. The longer trek to work isn’t so bad. Jack and I have a mommy and me group we love, and nothing is stressing us out anymore. We still have to finalize getting our Indiana drivers license and car registration. It’s much more of a hassle than I had originally thought – read I have to take a written test to prove I know how to drive. But we still have about 2 weeks to do that.

Here’s some shots from my favorite things in October! The pumpkin patch, mums on the porch, creepy halloween mantel, and Jack’s haircut!

the one about 18 weeks with baby #2

How far along? 18 weeks

Maternity clothes? In my last pregnancy, most of my growth was in my belly. But this one there’s lots of growth in my hips as well. That’s frustrating since all my maternity pants are too big around the belly since they were stretched out, but now all my pre pregnancy jeans don’t fit in the hips. So I have to use my bella band to hold up maternity pants. I did buy some new maternity leggings. since I’ll be pregnant in winter I’ll need more than the 1 pair I had before. They fit very well, and I bought a pair of jogger pants which are not maternity but stretchy. They are amazing. AS far as tops and dresses, I’m good either way. I just can’t wear form fitting pre pregnancy that I don’t want stretched out.

Sleep: It has left me.

Best moment: He kicked for the first time!

Miss Anything?: I miss sleep.

Movement: Yup! I’ve felt the little flutters that make you aware of the movement, but could also be gas bubbles around 15 weeks. Then about 17 weeks I started to feel stronger kicks randomly.

Food cravings: wild berry skittles and chinese food

Anything making you queasy or sick: I was legit sick the last half of week 16. Jack had a virus and gave it over to me. Being sick while you’re pregnant is for the birds.

Gender: a boy! Benjamin ? Stark

Symptoms: Headaches, all the gross girly stuff, stiff legs, basically everything except boob tenderness which is nice.

Belly Button in or out? in, and i doubt it comes out

Wedding rings on or off? on and comfortable.

Happy or Moody most of the time: I’m pretty happy and chill most of the time. This is a welcome change from the first trimester. But when I’m moody it’s a life or death situation in my brain.

Looking forward to?  Our ultrasound and halloween with Jack! He of course can’t trick or treat, but he’ll probably appreciate his costume and all the attention he’ll get this year. He might get to go around in his wagon while his cousins trick or treat!

the one with the sanderson sisters

My go to style so far this pregnancy has been leggings or jeans with a cute t-shirt. It’s cute and comfy and you can style it so many different ways. But the best part is of course how easy it is. With my first pregnancy I tried to be a little more fashionable on a daily basis, but now that I’ve got one out of the belly and one in the belly – I just don’t have the energy. Last time I also had a full capsule wardrobe that I found it hard to not buy anything else for. I wanted to be trendy and cute and on point. But this time around I’m finding that I’m buying more quality i.e. expensive pieces – just not as many. I have about half of a maternity capsule wardrobe and I rock it every day.

Hopefully that and my little built in heater will help in the coming winter months. But this shirt unfortunately won’t be worn after October 31st. I’ll probably be squeezing myself into it that day.

Friday Favorites 10.13.17

1. . Our neighbors told us that not may kids trick or treat through our neighborhood for some reason. Tons of them live here, but I guess they go to their grandparents or a church trunk or treat. Or if they’re anything like me they go to the wealthy neighborhood about a mile away  . . . ANYWAY, I looked into how much a package of full size candy would be since I don’t have to buy much. I found these on amazon! $20 it’s what you’d spend for 200 pieces at Target not on sale!! This is such a great deal if you don’t have to buy a lot of candy! Scott and I have always wanted to be the cool house with full size candy bars and this year we’re accomplishing that goal.

2. Lately, I’ve really been into pretty coffee mugs. These are next on my list.

3. Of course, living in Indiana again I have to get a new winter coat. But a maternity one. Is it necessary? How outrageously expensive are they? I’m thinking about this one so far.

4. I’ve been wanting to incorporate more meat less meals into our lives. But with a husband who is apprehensive and a growing toddler boy that’s proved difficult so far. This list gives me a lot of hope. It does say college kids, but they’re actually for families.

5. I would love to grow herbs once our kitchen is refinished. This article has been giving me lots of hope.

the one with kitchen dreams

We recently bought a house here in our new state of Indiana. I’m so happy to be a homeowner again especially because it means we get to do renovations again! We loved doing our first house, and never felt like it was complete before we had to leave and move to Florida.  The only major renovation that needs to happen is the kitchen. Right now the plan is to do that next summer once I’m not pregnant anymore. Then we’ll do some small bathroom renovations (mostly just updating vanities) and finally we’ll tackle the outside.

Next summer seems far away, but if you know me you know I already have a plan. So today I wanted to share part of that plan for the kitchen. This is of course just the rough draft so updates are sure to come. I want to keep things simple, bright, and clean in here. So whites cabinets, concrete counters, stainless steel handles and appliances, and simple tile floors. Then we’ll break up all the cool colors with some wood shelves and a butcher block island. The thing I’m most undecided on right now is how high to take the cabinets. I know it looks more gourmet to have them all the way to the top, and it’s no wasted space. But I cant’ see myself every using them . . .

We have really great appliances and a huge pantry already, and only a small space for an island (no space for anything built in or with electricity supplied)  so this won’t be that big of an ordeal. Just changing the cabinets, counters, and backsplash basically!

I’m mostly looking forward to te new sink! The faucet we have no doesn’t have  a sprayer or detached head . . . it’s so hard to clean dishes #firstworldproblems.
