Archives for May 2017

Month: May 2017

the one with bright silk shorts

May’s series was easy for me to decide on. All I had to do was look in my closet and I saw tons of bright colors. So considering summer is practically here a series full of bright colors is perfect. Actually narrowing it down to only 5 outfits was rather difficult. Thank God May has an extra Monday!  Surprisingly, quite a few of my bright colors are older. Since I started with my new yellow peplum shirt, this week I’m mixing old and new! These bright silk shorts are a few years old, but I paired it with my new all good things tee.

These have been my favorite shorts for a few years, but I was able to find a few bright colored shorts I like just as well. They have the 2 most important c’s – color and comfort. Because nothing is better than colorful, fashionable, comfortable pieces! Those two things together make them perfect to dress up or dress down. I’m a casual gal so dressing them down is my favorite, of course. My new perforated sperry’s are the perfect addition to do just that.

5 pieces 1 outfit : statement sleeve

Hey friends! 5 pieces 1 outfit is a twice monthly series where we feature 5 pieces that bring together 1 perfect outfit. It doesn’t take a lot of time, money, and or pieces to create a fashionable look that anyone can create. 5 pieces is all you need to make another outfit killer. First, I find it’s best to have a theme so you have a place to build from. That can be a color combo or maybe even an event. But most of all you just need a good base piece. This week’s theme is the statement sleeve.

the one with embroidery hoop wall pockets

Lately, I’ve been getting lots of invitations. Because I’m very popular.

Nope, my cousin is getting married and I know 2 pregnant ladies. Still an introvert over here.

But it made me realize that only one little 2×2 part of our fridge holds magnets and therefore invitations. So  I took to pinterest and found a picture of these bad boys (just a picture not a link). I just happened to have an extra embroidery hoop and some fabric laying around so let me show ya how I made mine. It’s super easy and incredible adorable. If it had stripes instead of florals my husband would even like it.

What you’ll need ::

embroidery hoop

fabric to fit – I’d say half a yard to start

one 8×11 piece of felt

12 inches of trim or fabric decorations

hot glue gun

scissors

How to ::

start by separating your embroidery hoop

then cut your fabric within an inch or so of the smaller hoop

after that it’s time to get your pocket ready!  take your trim/decorations and hot glue them onto the felt.

then turn your project over so the fabric is print side up over the hoop, and place your felt near the bottom half (where your pocket will go)

Next, place the larger hoop over the fabric including the felt and tighten the screw back in.

hot glue the extra fabric around so it doesn’t show

hang and enjoy!

the one with yellow peplum

May’s series was easy for me to decide on. All I had to do was look in my closet and I saw tons of bright colors. So considering summer is practically here a series full of bright colors is perfect. Actually narrowing it down to only 5 outfits was rather difficult. Thank God May has an extra Monday!  Surprisingly, quite a few of my bright colors are older. But I decided to start with this new yellow peplum. You know I’m a fan of reusing what’s already in your closet tho so we’ll get to the older ones later!

I never thought I would look good in a peplum top. Ya know, because I have a bit of a spare tire. I always thought the ruffles of fabric there would just make the ruffles of flab stick out more. ha! Maybe it does, but for some reason the simplicity of this top spoke to me. I had to have it. Wearing it with this trio of necklaces might seem like a bad idea since I carry a child around most of my days. But Jack doesn’t seem interested in my necklaces so far. So basically I have to wear them while I can.
