Archives for March 2017

Month: March 2017

the one with white and chambray

The series this month is for easy, classic outfits. You know the ones that are all over Pinterest, and you think to yourself ‘that’s easy! I have that in my closet!’ But for some reason you never think to wear them until you see that pin. The key to making it yours is all in the accessories. This week’s post features white, chambray, and leopard print. Everybody has white bottoms, a chambray top, and some sort of leopard print to add in. Since this is the easy, classics series the accessories are simple. This outfit is perfect for brunch with friends, running errands, a casual date night, etc. But with some heels and statement accessories it’s the perfect base for a fancy night out.

A few weeks ago I had a series about outfits that are great for breastfeeding. Other than 5 pieces 1 outfit, it’s the first series I’ve ever had here on the niche. I liked it so much I’ve decided to do it again. I might make it a thing – every month is a new series. We’ll see how this one goes before we make that decision! So be sure to tell me how you like it and any others you might want to see!

1. Cupcakes and Cashmere had this Leo rug on their website last week. Every person I know who reads cupcakes and cashmere must have sent it to me over the past week. Yes people I know. I need this rug. The ubs however is thrilled that I can’t find it.

2. I”m trying to live by the if I still want it in a week then I’ll go buy it rule. I’ve wanted this romper for approximately 3 weeks. Only the fact that I put it on my bday list is keeping me from buying it already.

3. Sometime this year the hubs and I will be buying a house again #thankyoulord He’s recently discovered (thanks to another friend buying a house) that he likes craftsmen/mid century style. I can get on board after seeing this from the every girl.

4. I joined weight watchers recently to get into healthier eating habits. Once I finish breastfeeding I know I’ll be in for a rude awakening. So this article on healthy eating habits from around the world was interesting to say the least

5. I need these wedges to go with my new romper, obviously.

the one with an updated diy coffee table

For 3 years now, my husband and I have had a wonderful coffee table. We LOVE our coffee table, and we made it ourselves. But it has lots of sharp edges. Sharp edges and babies don’t mix. So we decided to keep with a coffee table we love, and made. The original diy coffee table had hair pin legs, and we wanted to keep those. I pinned a few hair pin tables that we liked, and we combined those tutorials to come up with our own! You can find those here.

Stuff you’ll need:

Pine wood round

Hairpin steel legs

Denatured alcohol

Steel wool

Spray paint clear coat enamel

Wood stain of choice

polyurethane

paint brush

80 and 120 grit sand paper

3/4 inch machine screws

Power screwdriver/drill

Measuring tape

Pencil

Instructions:

1. If you got raw steel legs, then you’ll need to clean them. Just wipe them down with some steel wool and denatured alcohol. Then clean and dry like you usually would.

2. Next sand the table really well. The sides especially will be tough. Use 80 then 120.

3. Then it’s time to stain! I used minwax’s dark walnut with one heavy coat. I like it dark. Once it was completely covered I wiped it off with an old rag using similar motions in the same direction. I let it dry completely before switching to the next side.

4. Once it’s stained and completely dry, sand it down with 120 again and apply your clear coat. I use minwax’s polycrylic  just because I always have and it’s what I have on hand.

5. When your clear coat has fully cured, measure out a square on the bottom of the table top for leg placement. I went 5 inches in on all sides for the corners of the legs. Be sure to measure from all angles and measure lots of times – more than twice 🙂

6. Then mark your leg holes and screw the legs in. Go slow and carefully since you only get one chance!

7. Decorate and enjoy!

In a few weeks, I’ll show you what we did with the top of the old coffee table! Yup, we loved it too much to give it up! Of course I’m aware of the booger thing in the basket – this is real life, folks!

the one with cognac and gold

A few weeks ago I had a series about outfits that are great for breastfeeding. Other than 5 pieces 1 outfit, it’s the first series I’ve ever had here on the niche. I liked it so much I’ve decided to do it again. I might make it a thing – every month is a new series. We’ll see how this one goes before we make that decision! The series this month is for easy, classic outfits. You know the ones that are all over Pinterest, and you think to yourself ‘that’s easy! I have that in my closet!’ But for some reason you never think to wear them until you see that pin. A white top and jeans is one of those outfits. The key is how you accessorize it and make it yours! Cognac is one of my favorite colors to wear and accessorize with. So this time around I made it mine with cognac and gold accessories! Three accessories in each color and I kept them all very simple. With easy, classic outfits I don’t see any reason for major accessories. Unless you want to make a statement, of course!

5 pieces 1 outfit: casual date night

Hey friends! 5 pieces 1 outfit is a twice monthly series where we feature 5 pieces that bring together 1 perfect outfit. It doesn’t take a lot of time, money, and or pieces to create a fashionable look that anyone can create. 5 pieces is all you need to make another outfit killer. First, I find it’s best to have a theme so you have a place to build from. That can be a color combo or maybe even an event. But most of all you just need a good base piece. This week’s theme is a casual date. This look is perfect for dinner and a movie or a casual night out with your boo!

My date night formula is simple. A nice dress to show off a little skin, my favorite of the moment shoes, a small purse, some earrings, and then finish it off with a simple lip.

the one with my birthday list

Happy birthday month! It is the 3rd best month of the year! September and December are better, but March is a very close third. This year my birthday list is easy. Things for me, but will specifically make life as a mom easier. So here it goes . . .

  1. Keurig – I’m pretty sure our keurig is 6 years old. But Scott tells me it’s only 3. But two cups of coffee a day makes me want a new one.
  2. Teething necklace – the drooling and the wining is already in abundance. anything to help is welcome.
  3. Target gift card – but only if you’re also willing to give two hours of babysitting.
  4. Bed frame and rug – I’m ready for a look in the bedroom. It has become my sanctuary. The only place in the house which is mine.
  5. Beauty and beast tickets – and again some babysitting hours, please.
  6. Massage – breast milk is heavy, ya’ll
  7. sugarboo bag – just something cute to make me happy 🙂
