Month: December 2015

the one with the top outfits of 2015

As the year comes to a close, I was really curious as to what my top outfits were in the past 365 days as per you guys. So I checked out which ones were viewed the most, and decided to share them here! I have to say I was pretty surprised! The outfits with my favorite pictures made the cut, but a couple outfits I thought would be loved were not viewed nearly as much as these guys! Along with each outfit I’ve got some behind the scenes stuff, and my thoughts on the outfits. I hope you enjoy this flashback as much as I did!

This one I knew would be here mostly because Nina did such an amazing job on my hair, and on these pictures. But this outfit is also a favorite of mine that I wear at least once a week. It’s comfortable and cute and versatile.

This one was a little surprising because this dress has been sold out for a long time. While posting this, I thought for sure people would be upset about it, but a friend told me it was to cute not to share.

this one was my favorite of the year! It took a skirt that I was considering throwing away and made it wearable again for me. So thanks knotted maxi outfit and dollar tree aviators!

this hat still has my heart and always will. also my husband and I argued through this entire shoot, but some of my favorite pictures of myself came from it, and those earrings are the only things I’ve ever bought from rocksbox.

So here’s what happened with this outfit. I bought this jacketed . . . loved it . . . put it on for a date night . . . took great pictures . . . wore the outfit for date night . . . hate the outfit. Seriously, I hate this outfit. will never wear it again. separately sure . . . but never this outfit ever again. I also feel like my face looks weird.

There ya have it! the top outfits from butchers niche in 2015! any of your favorites not make the cut?

the one with new years eve dresses

My second favorite holiday is just days away – new years eve, and I’m so excited! Mostly, for the people watching. You can totally tell a girls personality from her dress and her accessories. At least her personality for the night 😉 And new years eve is the best night to change up your personality. Here’s 3 dresses and 3 girls you’re for sure to see this year!

reddresslook
There’s always the girl in the sexy red dress. She has a bangin’ bod and the perfect beach waves and that slit in her dress is like Angelina Jolie with emerald earrings on. You’re a little jealous of her, but you know that only some girls can pull that off. And you are one of them . . . when you’re in the right mood. I have a feeling this dress will put you in the right mood.

toomuch
Then there’s the girl who’s outfit should be too much. You think can’t she choose between shiny shoes, a sequin dress OR a statement necklace. I mean all 3 is just a bit much, right?! But is it . . . like is she pulling this off!? She is. Keep it all in the same color family, only do this on special occasions like bachelorette parties, new years eve, your birthday. And most importantly, don’t apologize for it.

feathersnye
Then there’s the fun girl! Her hair is a super amazing pony tail, she’s got a red lip, and her dress is kinda basic (definitely something you would wear). But those shoes are killer, and the way she wears it all just seems sexy and perfect. You know you could be friends with her, but you wanna be her at the same time. Feathers and fringe, guys!

Which would you wear? It depends on the day for me . . . and today I feel like the fun girl!

the one with hot cocoa cookies

If you didn’t know already, I really love cookies. They are not my favorite dessert, but they are pretty close to being my favorite dessert. I’ve made 4 different kinds just in the past month. I could eat cookies at every meal, at every day. Cookies and pizza . . . cookies and pizza. That probably sounds disgusting to many, but it sounds pretty amazing to me.

hotcocoapin

Lately, for some reason, I’ve really been craving hot cocoa. I think it’s one of those weird complexes where I probably shouldn’t have it because of the heat, so that makes me want it even more. You know, like when you want ice cream when there’s snow on the ground. So I found a compromise and made hot cocoa cookies. They may be my favorite cookies, which is outrageous of me to say. But it’s true.

Hot Cocoa Cookies

Hot Cocoa Cookies

Ingredients

  • ?1 1/4 cup room temperature butter
  • ?1 cup white sugar
  • ?2/3 cup brown sugar
  • ?2 eggs
  • ?1 tsp vanilla
  • ?3 1/4 cups flour
  • ?4 packages instant cocoa (don’t use sugar free)
  • ?1 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • ?1 tsp baking powder
  • ?1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • ?16 marshmallows cut in half

Instructions

  1. 1.In a medium saucepan, over medium heat, melt the butter and the 12 ounces of semisweet chocolate chips. Stir constantly until just melted. Remove from heat and let stand for 5 minutes to slightly cool.
  2. 2.In a large bowl, combine the brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat with an electric hand-mixer, on medium speed just until blended. Beat in the cooled chocolate mixture just until combined.
  3. 3.Add the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder and salt. Mix on low speed just until combined. Cover bowl with saran wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  4. 4.Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper. Scoop and drop the cookie dough by the tablespoon, onto the prepared cookie sheets. You should fit 12 cookies per sheet, and making sure to space them at least 2 inches apart.
  5. 5.Bake cookies for 12 minutes. Remove cookies from oven and place one piece of chocolate on the center top of each cookie, and then top each chocolate with one half marshmallow. Place cookies back in oven and bake another 4 minutes.
  6. 6.Remove pan and let cookies cool at least 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

I left out from the instructions that I chose to broil mine at the very end on low for 1 minute. That’s what gave the marshmallows the nice roasted appearance. You’ll still get a delicious taste without it, but I like my marhsmallows burnt on my smores, on my hot cocoa, on pretty much everything but rice krispy treats. Just be sure and watch it so you don’t accidentally burn your cookies! All broilers are different so 1 minute may be too long for some of you.

What are your favorite cookies?

the one with Santa

Guys, guys! I hope you had a great weekend, and are having a wonderful Christmas season! Christmas is my FAVORITE! I love the spirit, the decorations, the happiness, the traditions, and of course I love Santa. The only thing that frustrates me about Christmas is I rarely ever have a white one, and that is the dream. Right?! Everybody wants to look outside and see snow on Christmas, but I cannot tell you the last time it happened in Indiana. So I turn to Christmas movies to see what a Holiday with Santa and snow looks like.

I’ve tried to start a few Christmas traditions with my husband, but so far watching 4 of our favorite movies is the only one that has stuck. Elf, White Christmas, Christmas Vacation, and Home Alone must be watched during the Holiday season. Starting Thanksgiving to Christmas day we watch all of them as many times as possible. My husband likes to limit it to once a piece, but there is no limit because let’s be honest . . . there can never be enough Christmas spirit. Another tradition I like to keep, is always wearing my Santa shirt and sipping on some hot cocoa while we watch these movies. Being festive starts with your appearance.

What Christmas traditions do you have?

5 pieces volume 5 – the French wardrobe

It’s volume 5 of my 5 pieces series, and I’m super pumped about it. Why? All over this here space called the internet lately they’ve been talking about ‘The French Wardrobe’. The French wardrobe for those of you who haven’t heard has 2 rules . . . 1 have the basics (find those here) 2 add 5 pieces each season. Different than my 5 pieces series, but the same general concept! You don’t need layers and layers of clothes to make a cute outfit! So for today’s 5 pieces I wanted to show you 5 pieces to make a cute outfit from the basics.

frenchwardrobe

silk blouse . black ankle boot . ponte pants . trench coat . leather clutch

I don’t want to call this a basic outfit because it not. I really hate using the word basic as an adjective anyway. I am not a basic white girl and neither are you – I am unique, individual woman and so are you. We are not basic, we are not the same just because we like plaid. And this outfit may come from a list labeled as basics to always keep in your wardrobe, but it is anything but ordinary. Just look at those accents on the pants, and the cutouts on the purse! What’s your favorite way to wear the basics?

the one with my best friends wedding

You know when you meet that person who you just know is the person you’re supposed to spend your life with. You hope it’ll be like it is in the movies where there’s a spark in your eye and your heart flutters. Instant chemistry! That time for me came 6 almost 7 years ago at a place that no longer exists. But there was no spark or even an immediate connection. It was a slow build . . . you could almost add a very before the slow. To this day it’s weird for us to be intimate with one another other than being completely open with each other. By intimate I mean hugging each other is sorta awkward. We met at work, and slowly became friends. Then one day we went out, just us, and something just clicked we were immediately best friends. We’re not those best friends that hold hands all the time or get all ooey gooey with each other. Think Regina George and Gretchen Weiners . . . she’s bossy and I’m a little spacey. We may not be the best people in the world, but we got each others backs and we’re always gonna build each other up.  I’m talking about my best friend. Her name is Rachel, and a month ago she got a new last name.

I could give you a full wedding recap, but I don’t wanna. I’ll just post some pictures up here to show you all how beautiful she was, and for me to have the memories. It was one of my most favorite days ever, and if there was a possibility of us getting closer we did that day . . . I also made lots of new friends with her family and friends I hadn’t met yet. I miss all these people and I want to relive this day over and over again to see my best friend so happy.

the one with a maxi skirt in the rain

maxi2 maxi5 maxi3 maxi8 maxi1 maxi6 maxi4 maxi7

similar skirt . flats . black shirt . scarf

When it’s cold enough in Florida to wear a blanket scarf . . . that means it’s raining. It’s weird that I’m slowly learning to love the rain. But we all know that’s only because I’ve been looking for reasons to wear scarves. So bring on the rain for a few more weeks, and bring on all the scarves. As soon as scarf season is over, I’ll hate the rain yet again.

Another thing I’m learning to love is maxi skirts with shoes and boots. It was always a bit awkward for me to pull off maxi skirts without sandals, but I’ve started embracing it. This maxi skirt from old navy is the perfect maxi skirt, and I don’t feel awkward wearing it with all my different shoes. It’s a light weight, breezy material with a comfortable waist and the perfect flare around the hips. And the neon color just makes it perfect. I was worried it would be hard to style such a bold color, but it’s actually quite easy when the skirt is this perfect. The most perfect thing about it? It actually hits the floor . . . even lays there a bit. Maxi skirts and dresses are supposed to hit the floor, but they rarely do. So when you find one that does you buy it in every color before it sales out – like this one has done.

the one with our Christmas cards 2015

Today I just wanted to stop by and share our Christmas cards for 2015. I’ve always loved sending and receiving Christmas cards from friends and family, but it got 10 times better when iron man and I got married. Now I had my team, and we could include pictures. Plus the number of cards to share with doubled! More love to go around is always ok in my book.

IMG_1751

Our last name is Stark, and we’re big fans of Game of Thrones so we decided to put that to good use and show off our witty personalities this year! For those of you who don’t watch, Game of Thrones features a family called Stark who resonate with the words ‘winter is coming’! Iron man and I are rarely serious, and we’re very laid back as a couple so being able to show off our personalities was so much fun for both of us. Plus we like to rub it in that we won’t get the joys of below zero temps and snow now that we live in Florida 🙂 He loved not having to get dressed up for Christmas pictures, and I liked it that he actually enjoyed sending our cards this year! So it was a win win!

IMG_1750

I chose vista print to have our cards printed because of their prices! The quality of paper is always good, they have tons of designs to choose from, the shipping is fast, and they’re so much cheaper than many other places. This year was the first year they’ve let me down a little. Our picture was high quality and it showed online beautifully, but when it was actually printed there’s this dark film around our faces. It was frustrating, but they weren’t bad enough to not send out. It might make me think twice next year though when choose who to print our cards then.

Did you send out Christmas cards this year?
