The sun in florida is such a beast you guys. It’s so bright, and it stays that way like 90% of the time. It’ll be bright as hell even though it’s a cloudy, rainy day. The pictures above are proof of that. All day from my half closed windows (too bright to open the blinds all the way) I saw bright and sunny skies. So I got ready for date night – all cute and wifey like in my funny shirt. I left to pick up Iron Man from work and head off to get some thai food only to find RAIN OUTSIDE. Like ‘thank god I don’t have on suede’ rain, not a drizzle where as long as you don’t step in a puddle your suede will be fine. You know what I’m talking about.

I was seriously heart broken over not being able to take pictures of this outfit, especially the new herschel clutch (seriously, amazing clutch and cool cool company, go check them out). All through dinner, I thought to myself ‘when can i wear this again to take pictures and iron man not notice that i wore the exact same outfit so close together’ Guys, he’s a man. He doesn’t notice what I wear at any time unless it’s on the floor or I ask him if i look fat. And even on those two occasions I’m pretty sure he’s not looking at my clothes. So my concerns were unnecessary, and made even more so when we walked outside and there was no more rain. How could I forget we live in Florida now?

Why would I not go in the shade to take these pictures, you ask? Because the shade doesn’t help.

.. a quick trip sounds really good right about now. And traveling at least once a month has become my norm since moving away from home, so this article on late summer travel deals is the in my book. my favorite tip is to avoid checking bags . . . It’s a point of pride for me to fit everything into a carry on so I don’t have to pay for a checked bag. sunglasses2 .. I’m really into two -tone sunglasses right now. And I think i need these particular sunglasses. Amazon is my spot to get decent quality sunglasses on the cheap so I can have lots and lots of them.

.. don’t forget to read my post about how fashion impacts life and sage advice from Miranda Priestley. very important life stuff here, guys. That face down there  . . . i don’t even know where it came from.

..  I have a weird obsession with reading about serial killers, and a fiercely loyal love for Leonardo Dicaprio. The two are related because he’s finally making that movie about America’s first serial killer. I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for a movie. Yes I was . . . it was Gatsby. Shocking.

.. I’m loving all the post with Katie’s new blue purse, also she’s a colts fan like me so BOOM!

Have a great weekend!

the one with cinnamon roll nutella pull apart bread

pullapartbreadpin (1)

I’m all about an easy breakfast. I’m a hard sleeper so getting up in the morning is obviously the easiest thing I do all day . . . wrong it’s the hardest. Back when I had a job that I had to be at a certain time each day, I was literally running out the door, breakfast in hand to make it on time. My husband and I rode together, and he was the exact opposite. He got up hours before we had to leave and easily went through his morning, ate breakfast while watching the news, had time to shower, etc. etc. I never learned from his ways or his eye rolls at me rushing out the door. At least I showered the night before, right?

Now that I work from home, I’m actually thankful to have to take him to work (we’re a one car family) because it gets me out of bed at a decent hour. But standing at the stove making breakfast sounds horrible in the mornings, still. So I usually make myself a shake, but sometimes I want a special treat. That’s when I cook Cinnamon Roll Nutella Pull Apart bread the night before. I walk back in from dropping him off, pull apart a few pieces, pop them in the microwave while I make my coffee, and then sit (usually on the bed) and just let it melt in my mouth. I’m really thankful that husband of mine works so hard so I can savor these moments at home.

Cinnamon Roll Nutella Pull Apart Bread

Cinnamon Roll Nutella Pull Apart Bread

  • 1 can Pillsbury Grands! Cinnamon Rolls (not flakey)
  • Chocolate spread (such as Nutella, Chocolate Peanut Butter, or any similar product)

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9x5 loaf pan with cooking spray (for best removal results use the spray with flour in it).
  2. Unroll the tube of Cinnamon Rolls carefully. If they split, just press them back together. Separate the rolls. Slice each into three thin slices, lengthwise (like you'd cut a sandwich roll). This is a messy step!
  3. Sandwich the slices together with chocolate spread, forming a loaf. Do not spread any chocolate on the outside of the two ends. Place the loaf in the pan. Bake for 24-28 minutes until golden brown. Place the frosting cup that comes with the rolls on the stove while the loaf is baking to melt it, then pour it over the warm bread. Serve warm.

the one at the amusement park

shorts . tank .  Nike Women’s Dual Fusion . watch . bag

A few weeks ago, I posted about what I wore to Harry Potter World so this may be a bit of a repeat for a regular reader. It was exactly what I wore, and exactly what happened, and if you like dry humor and sarcasm or just want to see what it would be like to be my friend . . . then go read it and take notes. But let’s be honest, that post was a big joke. I definitely would not recommend wearing that to an amusement park, and I never will again.

Well, I have been back twice since that post, and I think I’ve finally nailed down the perfect outfit to wear to an amusement park on the hot, hot summer days of Florida. The key is ankle support, storage (go with me here), and breathable fabrics.

So let’s start from the bottom and work our way up. These shoes are Nike’s dual fusion, and they are pretty amazing for walking and running in my wide feet. I’ve had my purple pair for almost a month, and love them so much. 15,000 steps, 14 stories, and completely covered in water and the bottoms of my feet hurt a little.

Breathable shorts are key . . . jean shorts will work, but if you’re going to go on the water rides it might be a bad decision. Talking from experience here. My favorite shorts to wear have been featured on the bliggity blog a couple times, and every time I wear them they get better. They’re breathable and don’t show butt sweat. holla!

An easy, breezy tank top that won’t leave you with lots of tan lines is exactly what’s needed . . . just be sure it’s not white 🙂 again with the water rides. If you go to universal you’re going to get soaked, I’ve learned from experience.

The only accessories you’re gonna need are some cute sunglasses, a watch (not necessary, but I like it so i don’t have to pull my phone out to see the time), and some storage i.e. a purse. You don’t need much when going to an amusement park – I take my wallet, phone, keys, lip balm, tylenol, and sunscreen (and possible a magic wand or two). A small cross-body holds all of that, stays out of the way, and gives me extra space for my sunglasses, watch, and maybe even a water bottle.

What do you wear to your favorite amusement parks?

the one with August’s wishlist

It’s that time of the month again where I window shop, and put all of these things in my online shopping cart just to tell you about them. And then I end up buying about half of them anyway even though I tell myself I won’t.

wallet – Current wallet is doing that thing where it only zips half the time, and the other half the time it acts like it will zip but doesn’t. I like to spend a pretty penny on my wallets so they last awhile, but that also means I question my decision. This is the one I’m leaning towards.

striped tee – My current black and white striped tee, which is a closet staple, has a bit too wide of stripes. Does that even make sense? So I’m in search of a new one.

sunglasses – We all know I have a thing for sunglasses, and like to think I can wear any kind at any time. So I’ve been wanting some new ones, some funky ones.

pumps – The best friend is getting married very quickly (November) so I’ve started thinking about things to wear, and the dress for the rehearsal dinner is pretty neutral. Obviously, I need some new, colorful shoes to go with.

What’s on your wishlist?

Guys, fashion is so important in life. I wish everyone understood just how much it affects our lives. Even when you make the decision to not follow the trends or ‘not care’ about what you’re wearing, guess what, you are in fact making a big fashion decision and an impact on your life.

She may not say it in a nice or even appropriate way . . . but I think Miranda Priestley from The Devil Wears Prada (movie//book) says it best . . .

” You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select… I don’t know… that lumpy blue sweater, for instance because you’re trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don’t know is that that sweater is not just blue, it’s not turquoise. It’s not lapis. It’s actually cerulean. And you’re also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent… wasn’t it who showed cerulean military jackets? I think we need a jacket here. And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. And then it, uh, filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic Casual Corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff.”

Fashion is a part of how we present ourselves, how we’re viewed (whether we like it or it’s fair, or not), it’s even part of our Reverence for God, and it most definitely affects our view of ourselves.  Wear something that doesn’t fit you right, and you’re not going to think highly of yourself. Take your hair out of a braid so it’s all wavy and voluminous then put on a sexy dress and you’re a vivacious lady read to take on the town . . . see above pictures for evidence.

5 things from an epic week

Last week was pretty epic. There was something going on every day. This week I’ve spent cleaning the house and letting my body recover. I haven’t even done a lot of online window shopping. That’s partly because all of the orders from last week came in so I got to re-shop the delivery boxes. Online shopping is seriously the best. SO let’s recap last week . . .

1. Tuesday I went to Epcot and got my day drank on with Liz Tippy. Let me tell you, the 3 amigos ride in Mexico followed by fish tacos and then grand marnier slushies and macaroons in France is the way to go for meals every day.

2. Wednesday I got new tennis shoes. They’re purple and pink. That’s about all that needs to be said about that.

3. Thursday Iron Man and I went to Universal with his little brother. It was the best time I’ve had at an amusement park in a long time. We missed Ben and Jen by 2 days, but not everything can be perfect.

hangry towel

4. On Friday, the brother in law told me I was the hangriest person I ever met. And so I’ve decided to take the plunge and buy something hangry for the kitchen. This tea towel is #1 on the list so far.

5. I made butterbeer at home . . . it was delicious. look for the recipe soon on a blog near you.

how has your week been? any exciting plans for the weekend?

What makes you feel beautiful? // Guest Post

Hey, there! I’m Nina and I blog over at Flowers in my Hair. You’ll find me writing about everyday adventures and the truth about them, DIY , beauty (more on that to come), travel, writing (because I call myself a writer), photography, recipes (typically recipes from my Italian family), health, books (they are kind of a vice but I show remarkable restraint by posting 1-2 times a month about them), short essays about serious stuff or things I am learning (on Thursdays), organization (by blogging about it, I have to try and organize my chaos), a bit on blogging itself, and probably a lot of other things. I also love elephants.

You may or not know that Bex and I real life friends (we started as blogging buds but transitioned, ya feel me?). One of the things I admire about Bex is her confidence. When I visited her, I was able to take photographs of her and there was one shoot where she was just…You could just tell how beautiful she felt (maybe she will tell you the story).

I, on the other hand, am not as confident. So you don’t see my mug on the blog as much. But Bex inspires me and so I thought I would share some things that make me feel pretty–not just on the outside but on the inside as well.

1. Elephants

I love them. They make me so happy.

2. Polka Dots.

Love them. They used to be my signature but I think they have been replaced by elephants.

3. Most anything, leopard.

4. Anything Nautical.

A friend teases me about this.

5. Flowers in my Hair

They make me feel beautiful inside and outside–like anything could happen. I recently did a tutorial on how I made this one here.

6. The Beautiful Women in my Family.

Example one: Nonna. Need I say more?

7. Dancing.

It’s not because I am skilled (far from it).

8. Friends.

Please excuse the sweat that is destroying my make up. That’s not the point is it? (Let’s not start on my hair).

9. Snail Mail.

It makes me feel so loved!

10. Laughing.

Is there anything better?

I could go on and on. As much as I love make up (and I sure do) and fashion, I know there are a lot of things and people that go into Bex taking such banging photographs with such confidence. So these are some of mine.

What are some of yours?

the one to beat the heat

sandals . skirt . similar tank

Sometimes it’s just really hot and you need to beat the heat. One of those days where wearing any stitch of clothing just sounds AWFUL. And you think about how wonderful it would be to live in a nudist colony. Just kidding, I never think that. But I do sometimes think that that I would much rather just stay home in the air conditioning. No matter what I have going on, I sometimes question if it’s worth it. Normally, leaving the house must win out, and so this is one of those outfits I turn to to help beat the heat.

There are a few things I look for that are in important for the outfits to wear on super hot days most of them are obvious.

1. light, breathable fabrics – Fabrics like chiffon let the breeze all the way through. 2. no sleeves and no pants – skirts it is when the temp is above 100 3. cute sandals – I hate shoes regardless so I’m certainly not going to sweat thru actual shoes in the heat. 4. clips to get my bangs outta my face. 5. friends that I can laugh with and who understand the importance of elephants. sometimes you’re so busy laughing you forget how hot it is.

how do you beat the heat? Would $100 visa gift card help!?!?
