Month: April 2015

the one with a april 2015 wishlist

Happy tax day! No? that’s not a happy thing . . . oh, ok . . .

The one thing about doing the capsule wardrobe is you always have a few weeks of shopping. A few weeks of fun. A few weeks of happiness. And then it all stops. You do have organization, fun remixing, and lots of new clothes to wear until the next few weeks of shopping. But nothing can really take the place of shopping. I’m gonna try to though by filling my shopping cart with all these things and instead of pressing buy . . .  i’ll press publish.

wishlistReebok Women’s Realflex Scream 4.0 Running Shoe  Iron Man and I have started working out again – well, I’m working out again. he’s continuing – and I haven’t bought a new pair of tennis shoes in almost 5 years. So I’m really craving a pair.

Givenchy crystal cluster studs – they call them clusters . . . I call them bees. I’ve been wanting a pair of bee earrings AND a statement necklace with a bee shape for a good long while, but never bit the bullet. It’s one of those things where you want it, but there are so many you love you can’t decide which one. These are by far my favs, but they’re more than I usually spend on jewelry.

compression pants – Same as new tennis shoes. I don’t normally go for bright printed workout pants. The gym is not a place I want to stand out or accentuate the curvier part of me. But they seem fun. and I am fun.

Chiffon Maxi Floral Dress – I’m not sure this is the one, but I am definitely craving a chiffon maxi. or maybe a tutu . . . or maybe just a chiffon skirt . . .

this is why i haven’t bought anything yet.
Pastel Rose Faux Leather Clutch – my love affair with pink continues. Now that my iphone 6 plus is taking up most of the space in my clutches I need some new bigger ones that can hold everything i need it to.

There’s my April 2015 wishlist. What’s on your wish list this month?

I’ve never really been a coffee person. Caffeine person . . .yes, very much so. But even though I drank coffee everyday . . . I preferred my caffeine in coke form.

But I am slowly coming over to the coffee side of things. Ok, not really. I’m coming really fast. It doesn’t make any sense to move to warmer temps and then become addicted to coffee, but that’s what happened. Last week was especially rough so I came up with my own iced coffee recipe out of regular coffee in my Keurig. I’ve been chugging it all day long, 24/7. I know I’m not alone. I’m just late to the game.

This t shirt is my new favorite t shirt because of my coffee and bee obsession. There was seriously no way I could pass it up, and it has since become my daily wardrobe. I have a coffee buzz and I show it on my t shirt. My daily wardrobe also consists of easy sandals and a skirt for quick dressing. My coffee buzz is too much to actually zip and button pants some days. This etsy shop (link with t shirt) has so many other awesome t shirts and I know want all of them! They didn’t sponsor this post I just love my coffee buzz . . . I mean t shirt  . . . that much.

the one with a poplin dress remix

Monday I shared what I wore for Easter Sunday. A fun, bright, easy, pastel poplin dress. What I love about a poplin dress is how versatile it is. Almost as much as a fit & flare. But a poplin keeps it versatile when it comes to the fabric – it can be dressed up or dressed down, dressed for a movie or dressed for a wedding. So today I wanted to share 3 more ways I dress my poplin dress.

Faux Leather Bow Handbag Vintage Bib NecklaceAnne Michelle Sandals

Monday I shared a classier way to wear it so let’s start with yet another. On Monday’s look I wanted to be a little more covered up for church or even work, but this one would be good when you can show a little shoulder. I think I’m going to wear something just like this to a wedding we have in August. I love that the statement necklace brings in a little darker color to contrast all the bright, and it welcomes in warm blues so the mint in the purse makes perfect sense.

Denim JacketChinese Laundry SandalDrawstring Crossbody Bag

For days when you want to look nice but still be comfortable a dress is always a good option. I love adding jean jackets to those quick and easy choices in the spring. The denim, of course, keeps the look casual, but warm in the mornings and the evenings when the sun isn’t all the way up. That even happens in Florida believe it or not. Backpack/drawstring type bags like this are popular right now, and I can’t decide if I’m ok with it or not. But this one makes me think I’m ok with it.

Envelope Crossbody BagFlip Flop

Sometimes you just want to be really casual, but still look put together. With a poplin dress, I’d throw on a comfy graphic tee. I might even knot it at the bottom, but that might make me look pregnant. It still might be worth it though so I’ll be trying it soon. Another warm blue purse to add some contrast and keep things colorful, and some super cute, super comfy flippy floppies bring this look together.

What’s a way you’d rock a poplin dress this spring?

the one with diy lavender foot soak

Spring time is officially here. Some of you unfortunately can’t tell by the weather, but it is true – I promise. So it’s time to get our skin ready for sun, and our feet ready for sandals. My favorite way is this DIY lavender foot soak.

Epsom salt is fantastic for relieving aches as well as detoxifying the body. The active ingredients in epsom salt are magnesium and sulfur, which absorb through your skin when you soak. This healing salt is responsible for reducing inflammation, soothing itchy skin, relieving sore muscles and stiff joints, lowering stress, exfoliating skin and eliminating toxins from the body. Lavender is incredibly relaxing for the body and therapeutic-grade oils can be used for skin abrasions, cuts, wounds, etc.

Mix those benefits up with some coconut oil and a pumice stone afterward and you’ve got yourself smooth heels and a relaxed body.

Here’s what you’ll need.

  • Course sea salt
  • lavender essential oil
  • Dried Lavender Flowers (optional)
  • Epsom salts
  • 16 oz jar with lid

how-to: Fill your mason jar with Epsom salt 1/4th of the way up, then sprinkle a bit of course sea salt on top of the Epsom salt, it doesn’t have to be exact. Next, drop 3-5 drops of lavender oil on top of the salts, close lid and shake.

Repeat this process until you get to the top of the jar. When its full, secure it with a lid and make it pretty with ribbons or labels if that makes your heart sing and you’re golden.

Directions for a bath soak: Fill a bathtub with warm to hot water, pour entire contents of a 16 oz. mason jar/2 cups in the bath, let it dissolve, then soak for a minimum of 15 minutes. Drink 1 full glass of water during the soak to aid in detoxification.

Directions for a foot soak: Fill a foot tub or pan big enough to soak your feet with warm to hot water. Pour a half pint/1 cup of your soak ingredients in the water. Soak for a minimum of 15 minutes. Drink 1 full glass of water during or after the soak to aid in detoxification.

How do you prepare for the spring?

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend 🙂 Welcome to the new week! Yesterday was our first Holiday here in Florida without our family. No worries, this isn’t going to be a sappy post about how I miss them. On the contrary, it’s going to be how awesome the day was. So let’s start with the most important part, what I wore . . .

This coral dress from Old Navy is a poplin dress – which surprise, surprise is a very versatile fabric. So Wednesday I’ll have a few other ways to rock it this Spring. Easter reminds me of (other than our Savior’s Resurrection) pastels, pickled eggs, and a big family dinner. So after, Iron Man and I went to worship in our . . . ok, only my . . . pastel colors, I made a big dinner for the two of us to eat on for days! Oddly enough the entire chocolate pie is gone already though. The last time I had ham every day for a week my feet were very swollen during a work conference. I couldn’t even put my black heels on. I pushed through though so I’m not worried about what my feet will look like at the end of this week.

After dinner, we had a Google hangout with some of the fam bam, and relaxed with some TV. How was your Easter?

the one with April’s goals

I love putting my goals up here and keeping myself accountable to you all. I actually have a lot to say about April’s goals so let’s get straight to it.

IMG_6230March’s goals

1. get etsy shop up and running . . . more on this later – well, it’s not up and running. but i have made a lot of progress and it will be soon!

2. update/reform sponsorship program on the blog. – I do offer sponsorship’s now, but I don’t do much for my sponsoree’s. I just simply didn’t have the time. But now that I find myself with more time on my hands I’d like to revamp it and do for other bloggers what some of my favorite bloggers have done for me. – All done! be sure to check out my advertise page.

3. get new spring capsule organized and ready. – see Monday’s post!

4. find a new dentist and a new special doctor – dentist appointment is made, and I don’t want to get into too many details on the other 😉 But all is well.

5. find a new job –  I’m a trophy wife now! But that’s not my style really, and I have the opportunity to design a whole new life and a whole new career right now. So I have to take advantage and I plan to. – work in progress.

April’s goals

1. workout 3-4 times a week. Iron Man and I just joined a gym so I’m excited to get back into it. I haven’t worked out consistently in a long . . . long . . . time.

2. finish etsy shop – I’ve actually got the launch scheduled. So coming soon 🙂

3. work with Scott to find a church. – self explanatory. March was a crazy month. We moved and traveled a lot on the weekends. We did get to start the search near the end of the month, but it’s time to really get into it. I know it’s a big decision, and we will take our time. But I’m ready to have a consistent place in our lives that isn’t the house.

4. get back into crafts. – I haven’t done a craft or built something in a long while. And the biggest reason is because there’s nothing for me to do that has a purpose. Ya know what I’m saying? But I need to figure that out so I can get my hands creating again!

5. learn to clean Scott’s work pants myself. – At his old position, he could wear jeans every day because he didn’t actually see customers. Now he wears suits every day. The dry cleaners was not a place I visited before this. But after doing a little research I just don’t want to spend the money on something I can do myself.

What are your goals for April?

Happy April! Today starts plans for our Easter for 2! This may sound bad, but growing up Easter was just another day to acknowledge and celebrate His resurrection . . . and then have a good meal with ham and pickled eggs most importantly. Even though it’s just Iron Man and I here for Easter, I want to have an special dinner with all the stuff we’re used to. This will be the first time I’ve made pickled eggs . . . and not just eat the entire tub my mom makes. Wish me luck! And possibly I’ll share the recipe.

I’m pretty sure that just by coming to the blog even if for one post, you can see my love of purple. But lately I’ve been having a little love affair with pink.

I know. I know.

When I was younger, you would never catch me in either color. I certainly wouldn’t say they were my favorite color or have my blog feature either color. But eventually they grew on me, and I welcomed the girly colors into my life. Then I loved purple so much it became my wedding color. It’s serious.

Except for this little love affair with pink I’m having right now.
