the one about Reese Witherspoon

Since I’m currently in a capsule wardrobe I look for inspiration everywhere. Remixing 37 pieces as much as possible forces you to get creative sometimes.

Of course, celebrities are a big source of that inspiration. I’ve been looking for new and fun things to do on this here bliggity blog so naturally the two came together. SOOOOO Every other week or so I’ll feature a favorite celebrity of mine (or yours, feel free to send requests) in an outfit that we can all wear. At the bottom of each post, I’ll link to how I would style it and where I found those pieces.

I knew to start that I needed to choose a celebrity with impeccable style and talent. So Reese Witherspoon was the obvious choice. Home girl is the definition of classic, all American girl style.

I couldn’t find a blue, heart print button up. I decided the hearts were the most important part so I chose this classic black and white one. I was very torn between this and blue gingham one. Gingham is definitely in this Spring, and it’s a classic print so we can be sure Reese is most likely a fan.

Who’s your favorite celeb style icon? Maybe i’ll use them next!

the one about redesign

Levi’s Women’s Classic Short . Ballet Flats  . similar bag  .

similar bag  . sunglasses . sweatshirt from this etsy shop

I wanted to talk about something other than an outfit and the weekend today. I know that’s not really my thing, but sometimes I like to throw a little post with some added flair  . . . something to provoke thought and prick hearts. Life isn’t all about fashion and design.

But I had some trouble. The problem is that my mind runs a hundred miles a minute so I can’t grab ahold of anything long enough to get more than a couple paragraphs out. I’ll finally get to the point where I have enough to say for a full post and then I  . . . I just stop.

I question my writing. I question my voice. I question my knowledge on the subjects I choose to write on. For a couple days I was worried I was losing my touch. I worried that I had no more confidence in myself. But then I realized, that’s just my season of life right now.

I get the chance to redesign my life. Redesign my day to day. The basics are set, but I get to design the details. It’s like picking the accessories for the perfect jeans and white t.

So there’s a lot of questions. But really there’s lots of dreaming happening – dreaming of how and  what I want out of this new life I’ve gotten a chance at.

If you had a chance to redesign your life what would you do?

the one with fire roasted stuffed shells

I love – lurve – coming up with interesting ways to change up my favorite recipes. Adding a little beer to the chilli, baking asparagus instead steaming it, or adding some breadcrumbs to your favorite burgers. Today’s recipe is another quick and simple update for a classic recipe that takes the taste up a notch without adding any time or stress.

Fire Roasted Stuffed Shells

  • 20 jumbo shells
  • 3/4 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup frozen spinach, thawed and drained
  • 8 oz fire roasted diced tomatoes
  • 8 oz of your favorite tomato sauce
  • 1 lb. sausage or ground beef

  1. Boil a large pot of water and add your pasta. Cook according to the package directions. Drain the noodles and set aside.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Spread 1/3 cup of your tomato sauce and 1/3 cup of fire roasted tomatoes in the bottom of a 9×9 dish.
  3. Add the uncooked sausage to a hot pan. Cook until browned. Stir in 2/3 of tomato sauce and fire roasted tomatoes and set aside.
  4. In a small bowl stir together the ricotta, 1/2 a cup of mozzarella, Parmesan, egg, and spinach. Spread one tablespoon of the cheese mixture into each shell. Top with a heaping amount of the sausage. Place in your dish and continue with the remaining shells. Smoother in the remaining 1/3 cup of sauce and sprinkle with left over mozzarella.
  5. Bake, covered, for 20 minutes. Remove the lid and cook an additional 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

the one about the Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby is just shy of 2 weeks away. I’ve always had dreams of going to the derby. Even made plans with friends twice. But no plans ever actually went forward. So every year I dream of what I would wear if I ever get to go to the derby. Some things may accidentally end up in my cart anyway . . .

You can never go wrong with classic black and white. It reminds me of Eliza Doolittle.  I may or may not have annoyed my family by watching that movie so many times when I was younger. I did – also the entire family has the movie memorized so it was actually a win.

A perfect, spring, floral dress is the first place I always go when dreaming of my derby outfit. This one has clean and classic lines to keep things chic.

Half Sleeve Floral Dress
Pointed Toe Ankle Strap High Heel
Leather Clutch Bag (Green)
Elegant Feather Floral Accent Fascinator

Watercolor dresses are all over the place these days, so why not take it to the derby. I love the bright colors and the biggest hat of all to go right along with it.

Feather Floral Wide Brim Hat
Lilly Pumps
Satchel Purse

What would you wear to the derby? Anybody get to actually go?

the one with a diy lampshade

Sometimes I do little projects around the house, and I think to myself  “this is much too easy to put on the blog.”

Sometimes I do little projects around the house, and I think to myself  “this is too cute not to put on the blog.”

Today you get a project where I thought both of these, and I’m putting it on the blog for your enjoyment. It’s a quick and easy update for a diy lampshade .

It’s so ridiculously easy that I thought about not even telling you how I did it. But that would defeat the purpose, so here’s a quick rundown.

Supplies –

hot glue gun with glue

chiffon flowers

similar lamp

Decide what pattern you’d like your flowers to go on before you start attaching them. Very important part – please don’t forget that part. Then just put a spot of glue on the back of each flower and push it down onto the lampshade. I find 3 squirts and then a little circular motion so it covers the entire center works very well with these flowers.

I’ve used these flowers with many different projects. They’re beautiful and durable. The shop I linked above has many different styles and her turn around time is solid. She’s taking a bit of a break so try this one in the mean time.

This diy lampshade is in my office, which has become my new favorite room in the house. We’ve had the same decorations in the past 3 houses, and I’m just ready for a change. But we’re in between right now while we get to know our new area. It seems ridiculous to start making changes, but the office is all new to me. It’s my place to learn my new style and get a few changes going. My diy lampshade is the perfect addition.

I hope you all had a splendid weekend, and are ready for the week ahead. I’ve got big plans for this week so the weekend was filled with relaxation on the beach, making new friends, grilling out with the Iron Man, and praising my Lord.

If you’ve been following my new capsule wardrobe you’ll know that this skirt was not included. So sue me. Just kidding, please don’t.

I had left a spot open for a maxi dress or skirt, but I just felt like this one wasn’t it even though it was in my closet. It fits a little weird, and has no movement. But I got the idea to try the knotted maxi look so I didn’t have to worry about the pulling near the bottom, and had to try it out.

The result? I’m still not positive this is the skirt to include in my capsule, but I love this look. Also, the skirt still fits weird at the top, but the bottom is all fixed with a simple knot. I definitely had to walk around in it a bit to get used to it. About halfway through dinner I told Iron Man it was not gonna work, but then we walked around Target for a bit and I was convinced. So comfortable!

What do you think – will you try the knotted maxi?

the one with a day in the life

Organizations and routine are in my blood. They are a part of who I am. It’s deep, and it’s personal. I know nerdy. So after moving down here to Florida jobless, I knew what I needed was goals and a schedule each day. I really love to hear other peoples schedules and read posts about what they’re up to each day. So today I wanted to share my current Monday through Friday schedule . . .

6:30 – Today I actually did what I always plan to do and got up in time to post to my favorite link ups early. It only takes 5-10 minutes every morning and being one of the first blogs in the link ups is so helpful. But at 630 in the morning you can’t always convince me it’s worth it. We’re a one car family so I have to take the hubs to work about 7:30. I have this irrational fear that I’ll get pulled over in my pj’s and then get in even more trouble, so I take time to make sure I look/smell appropriate. This doesn’t happen everyday, and as you can see behind me the bed is usually not made because I hate making the bed.

8 – I get back home between 8/8:30. Sometimes I’ve taken breakfast with me and did some devotional time by the beach. But some days, like today, I go back home. Breakfast and a little devotional then some yoga to loosen my tight hips.

8:30 – bloggin’ time. I have a little to do list of things I want to accomplish every day for the blog so I hit that first. Then I just read and comment on as many others as I can without wasting my morning reading all the blogs.

10 – I’ve been sitting for a while other than my yoga so I take this time to do things that require standing. Today it’s a load of laundry and cleaning the bathroom. I’m a neat freak so I take a little time everyday to clean and pickup. I know I’m nuts.

10:30 – I take about a 2 hour block of time each morning and each afternoon to work. Right now I’m in major business planning mode. Today I’m working on a business plan and photographing some things for the separate Etsy shop that’ll open soon.

12 – lunch time! I make myself some lunch and get my husbands lunch for the next day ready. then I sit and watch some TV (the walking dead because Daryl Dixon) and enjoy my lunch for a bit. While making lunch I realized it’s time to go to the grocery so I also made a meal plan for the next two weeks – which always leads to Pinterest searching. Since I’m on the computer anyway I check my email, social media, etc to see if I need to respond to anyone.

1:20 – This time after lunch is different every day. It really just depends on what I have going on. If I have an errand to run this is when I go. I have a couple crafty projects I want to get started so today it’s a run to the home depot.

2:30 – I have a class on photoshop now. I taught myself a lot of the basics last year, but I want to be able to do more especially with the business I’m planning.

4 – time to go get Iron Man. Every night but date night we to the gym so I change clothes, grab his gym back, and make us a snack before leaving. On date nights, I put on some makeup, do my hair, and put on next weeks blog featured outfit so he can take pictures before we go to dinner.

5:30 – Iron man and I made it to the gym. I have bad knees so treadmills and I aren’t friends – the bike it is. Sometimes I’ll go lift weights with Scott, but today I just don’t feel like it.

FullSizeRender (1)

6:45 – dinner time! 4 days a week we keep it simple and healthy with protein shakes for dinner so I make those and get some dishes done while Scott showers. After we eat, I’ll shower.

8 – After dinner is when he decompresses from his day. So I stay out of his way by finishing up any computer work that needs done – blog/work/class/house – or sometimes I’ll do some beauty stuff like a mask, tweeze, or paint my nails. Sometimes I just sit and read a good book. Today it’s sort of a mix of it all.

9 -Scott and I always make sure we have some time set aside each day to spend together. So we’re sure to put away our computers and our books at 9 pm every night. We usually just watch TV, like today, we finished up house of cards. He gets up right at 630 so the lights are out by 11 every night – sometimes earlier.

That’s life right now. I know in a year or so when we start a family it will all change – believe me I am definitely not naive to that fact. So I want to take this time to take advantage and really work to thrive in this season. I hope that’s how our Lord sees our time. What’s your schedule like? Any tips or tricks for staying motivated?
