Archives for March 2015

Month: March 2015

the one with local Indianapolis restaurants

Happy St. Patty’s day! I hope you’ve got your green on!

Today I get to co-host with the lovely Amanda from Amanda’s Moments for the ‘tell me about your town’ link up! This month we’re talking about our favorite local restaurants.

For those of you who keep up with things around here . . . yup I live in Florida . . . but these local haunts are all about my hometown – Indianapolis, Indiana. I’m still discovering things around our new town and I miss my little ol’ Hoosier state. So I’ve compiled a full day’s worth of local Indianapolis restaurants.

For the most important meal of the day, my favorite place to head would be Cafe Patachou. So many options, but the best is their omelets with giant sour dough toast. This place is always packed so it’s best to go for early morning breakfast or a late brunch so you don’t have to wait too long. The blogging bestie and I have met here for many a bloggers brunch.

For lunch my top choice will always be Bazbeaux for some gourmet pizza. Indiana is not known for their pizza – we’re not Chicago or New York – but Bazbeaux has delicious pizza none the less. It’s not your run of the mill sausage or pepperoni either. My favorite is either TCHOUPITOULAS with Cajun shrimp, house roasted red pepper, green pepper, red onion, andouille sausage and fresh garlic or The Luke that’s light on cheese , Buffalo chicken, blue cheese, red onion and garnished with fresh sliced celery.

Finally, for dinner my new favorite place in Indy is Bakersfield. You didn’t think I’d go a whole day without nachos or tacos did you? At Bakersfield we’d start with lots of guac and salsa to start, a tray with a variety of different tacos to share, and some sangria to top it all off – makes for the perfect girls night. I know Bakersfield isn’t a Spanish name, but that’s part of it’s charm.

What are you favorite restaurants in your town? I can’t wait to hear when you link up with Amanda below! And don’t forget about next month, which is April 21 all about your town’s scenery/weather/climate (in honor of Earth day the next day) .

the one about mint and pink

There is no other color combination that makes me think of sororities more than mint and pink. But that is a story for another day.

There is no other color combination that makes me think of spring more than mint and pink. and spring is my favorite season. Why you ask? It’s pretty, there are flowers, my birthday  – and all of you just said ‘o, there’s the real reason’. Yup, my birthday is on Thursday, spring is on Friday, and my brother’s family arrives on Saturday. Spring is the bomb.com

When I pick a color combination I want to wear I always remind myself that accessories can include your hair and your makeup. So some pink earrings, a pink purse, and a bold pink lip are the perfect accessories to give my mint shirt the pop of spring pink it needs.

I’ve learned that in the spring – in Florida – at night – it gets chilly sometimes. So my jeans shall remain a staple, and I need some easy breezy fabrics for long sleeved shirts to keep cool before dinner, but warm after the movie on date nights. I wore this outfit for our first official date night in our new town. The husband said I looked nice and he noticed the hexagon shape of my new sunglasses plus my lovely shirt kept me at the perfect internal temperature. Success all around.

the one about Spring bags

I have a funny story to tell you, but first you must know this isn’t a ‘o woe is me story’ for you to all feel sorry for me. It’s more a ‘ let’s laugh at how silly I am to break the ice before we talk about these awesome spring bags story’.

I’ve been in Florida for 10 days now. When we first moved down my parents and my little niece Amauri came with us to help us get settled. They went back home to Indiana on Sunday and my husband back for his second week of his new work on Monday. As I get settled into my new routine, I find Popsicle sticks from the 4 boxes of Popsicles Amauri ate, her bathing suit she insisted upon leaving here for the ocean, or beads from the braids I took out of her hair – I even found a cracker from a lunch-able crunched up in the carpet. Every time I just sit and think about her and how I miss having my family right down the street and cry for a minute. I’m such a sap and I obviously need to venture out of the house some.

Spring on the way has me all excited about for florals and pastels. One of the best ways to incorporate a little color into any outfit is with a fresh new bag. So I’ve got a collection of all size spring bags – splurges and steals – to bring the spring and pastels into your style.I have to say the steals are much more me and much more fun (in my humble opinion) than the splurges.

Which one is your favorite?

the one with a pallet coffee table

Over on my crafty spot, I’m talking all about the pallet coffee table I made recently. It’s chic, rustic, and convenient – 3 of favorite things! Be sure to head on over and check out the details.

the one with March’s goals

FullSizeRender (3)FullSizeRender FullSizeRender (1) FullSizeRender (2) FullSizeRender (5) FullSizeRender (4)

Let’s be honest as I always try to be with you guys  . . .  February’s goals went out the window when I realized I had 28 days to pack up and move 1200 miles away. So let’s procrastinate some more and talk about this pretty outfit.

It is officially Spring here in Florida from what I understand. I’m just excited to be able to go outside without 5 layers on underneath my wool coat, scarf, gloves, and hat. So to go along with Spring I’ve decided that floral’s are my new favorite color. I can’t get enough. I want them on my clothes,  all over my house – the husband says no, I’d like them in my hair,  and anywhere else I can fit them in.

Now back to goals.

March’s goals

1. get etsy shop up and running . . . more on this later

2. update/reform sponsorship program on the blog. – I do offer sponsorship’s now, but I don’t do much for my sponsoree’s. I just simply didn’t have the time. But now that I find myself with more time on my hands I’d like to revamp it and do for other bloggers what some of my favorite bloggers have done for me.

3. get new spring capsule organized and ready.

4. find a new dentist and a new special doctor 🙂

5. find a new job –  I’m a trophy wife now! But that’s not my style really, and I have the opportunity to design a whole new life and a whole new career right now. So I have to take advantage and I plan to.

What are your goals for this month?

the one about movement

projectwellnessWhy, ‘ello readers of the good Butcher’s Niche! It’s Nina of Flowers in my Hair and I happen to be a blog friend turned real life friend of Bex. She is super busy and will be updating you on all things Bex related soon but in the meantime, I am updating you on our wee little collab, Project Wellness.

(Is it weird that I wrote that entire paragraph with an English accent in my head? It’s not that weird because Bex and I do accents all the time but you guys aren’t there all the time so I wanted to include you in on the joke and I don’t know if it worked.)

So, she wrote about nutrition on my blog way when. Truth be told, with my birthday and some major life changes, I could have done a better job of this. Tomorrow, however, I am actually starting this sugar detox. Not a cool celeb detox where you only eat lemons and it is unhealthy but where you eat real food but cut out processed sugar. I was just meal planning for it. IMG_1187

But today I want to talk about movement. Not even the word exercise, just movement. Because the thing is, I have an autoimmune disease which means I can’t work out too little or too much. Plus, because I have let my health go a bit, I am carrying more weight than I normally do. This becomes less of a vanity issue and much more of a health issue because if I am carrying a dumbbell in each hand representing the weight I’ve gained while living with this autoimmune disease, it multiplies the problems. So here is my goal: move more.

I was given a fitbit for my birthday and so I take the stairs instead of the elevator. I walk on the treadmill. I am never going to be ready for a muscle competition but I can keep track of my movement with the fitbit and little by little, I know, from experience (because I have been here before), that I will start to feel better. Again, it isn’t about vanity or a number on the scale.IMG_1181

Like we said from the beginning, this is an ongoing project of wellness. It doesn’t have to do with a size or weight. It’s about health–and not just they physical either. So I encourage you, despite the snow (if it’s snowing where you are), just to move a bit more than you normally would. This may sound so dumb but sometimes I will gather everything I need and take it from room to room with me. Instead now, I force myself to leave things behind so I have to go back for them. Small things add up. I’ve done it before and I am doing it again.

Here’s to wellness!

Welp ya’ll I’m no longer a resident of Indiana. I’m officially a resident of Florida. This past weekend the husband and I along with my parents drove down with our little car and a big ol’ uhaul.
