My last capsule wardrobe faded into thin air, if you hadn’t noticed. Moving from below zero temperatures to year round spring and summer will do that to a capsule. But I never lost faith that I would come back to it, and here we are.
I started a capsule wardrobe during the fall in Indiana to save money as Christmas came. But it’s become a lot more than that for me. I’m not a minimalist, and I don’t necessarily have a wish to be more minimalist. I do wish to have more long lasting pieces – quality over quantity – but I think some things can be both. My main concerns are materialism and wastefulness. I was those things in a lot of ways before ,including my wardrobe.
My plan is to have 2 capsules a year during our time in Florida. One for easy breezy outfits during warm weather and one that can have a little layering. I’ll revisit that in July. But I’m not concerned about repeating outfits so I have faith it will work, and ,for that reason, I will keep it at 37 pieces for this round. So far I’ve got 32 . . . and I’m leaving a few pieces open until I really learn my grab and go pieces for my first floridian capsule wardrobe.
Guess what!?! All of them are from Old Navy. I’m nothing if not predictable. The black jeans I actually have in grey, but they aren’t available in grey anymore. Sadness. I left a spot open for a pair of jean shorts just in case.
The reason I left out the shorts for now is because I’m wearing lots of skirts lately. I also think they’ll do better in the capsule that needs thicker materials and layering.
Just a couple pieces to layer on those days where it’s rainy and cold in the afternoon.
For the tops, I wanted lots of short sleeves and tank tops with a few dressier shirts in easy, breezy fabrics. There’s also a spot open for my favorite sweatshirt that I forgot to take a picture of, oopsy!
I’ve never been a big shoe girl. I know. FOR SHAME! But I just haven’t been so this is the easy part. neutrals with just a couple fun pairs.
Are you doing a new capsule? You know I love to chat capsules so share, share, share!
The past month I’ve shared 4 different recipes on different blogs, and they’re all some of my favorites! So just in case you’ve missed them I wanted to share them all here in a sort of recipe roundup! And because I always choose favorites when it comes to food they’re in order of my favorites . . . at least for today.
1. I have a huge sweet tooth, but I’m one of those people that doesn’t like cake. I know . . . go ahead . . . Anyway . . . I’ll eat it, and enjoy it. But I much prefer something else like cookies or pie. So for my birthday I made these Rainbow Sprinkle Cheesecake Cookies!
2. There’s always an inward fight between sweet and savory for me. The sweet tooth usually wins . . . and the sugar headache later makes me regret it . . . but these Meatloaf Burgers have been making me choose savory over sweet much more lately.
3. Mornings have become one of those ritual things for me lately. I drop my husband off at work and then outside to do a little devotional before driving back home to have some breakfast and reflect on my devotion. Most mornings I just have a shake to keep it healthy, but Strawberry & Cream Croissants are my new special treat.
3. First and foremost, I do know I need to take brillo pads to my casserole dish. Secondly, this Siracha baked mac n cheese is so, so good it makes it worth it to clean the pan. This would be my husbands favorite of the 4 new recipes.
What are you favorite recipes lately?
I haven’t talked about a capsule wardrobe in a few weeks, but I haven’t given up on it. It made getting dressed in the morning so efficient. For an organized girl like me, it was heaven in my closet every morning. On Monday when I shared my new go to casual Saturday look I couldn’t help but think of all the different ways to wear my new favorite shorts. Fashion and comfort keeps me going back for more and I, of course, had to share with you my friends. Plus, next week – as long as all goes as planned – I’ll be sharing my new capsule wardrobe with you and all the details! So here’s 3 different ways to your paisley shorts.
Another take on the Saturday casual look from Monday except this time for those cooler mornings when you need a little sweatshirt. The hat is perfect for those days when you don’t wanna do your hair, and the stitching on the back of the sandals makes it look like you tried a little.
Concert season is right around the corner, and I couldn’t be more excited. Cute and comfy toms for all that standing, simple diamond studs to keep it classy and a little dressed up, and that top . . . as Chandler Bing says ‘perfection’.
You can even wear your shorts all dressed up for a night out on the town! The pattern on the shorts is a bit busy so keep it simple with white t, solid blazer, simple necklace, and some bangin’ shoes.
What’s your favorite ways to wear patterned (and comfortable) shorts?
Over on my crafty spot today I’ve got this spring time wreath that I made from inspiration I found in the Target Dollar Section! Head on over for the how to of this adorable wreath! This is another one of those easy posts that perfect to link up below! So get on it with the hump day happenings link up! We’d love to have each and every one of you every week!

How was your weekend, my lovely readers? I hope it was wonderful. Mine was full of family and awesomeness. If you’re interested, look for a full fun recap on Friday. If you’re not interested, every other day this week will have regular (super fun) content.
Today I have an outfit for those easy days on the beach or those busy days running errands. Those days when your main concern is comfort, your second concern is if it’s easy to get on and off, and your last concern is fashion. My solution? paisley shorts with an elastic waist and jelly flip flops. They tell me elastic waist shorts is what happens when you get old . . . and I did just turn 29. But mine have a fun, paisley pattern . . . so it’s all good, right?!
Remember when you were 10 and jelly sandals were all the rage and you wanted a pair in every color? I long for those days when my main concern was how many pairs of jelly sandals I had. Elastic waist shorts make it a bit better especially when they’re in a smooth, silky fabric and a fun paisley pattern. Luckily,I found the perfect cute flip flops to bring the nostalgia back. You’re welcome!
Be sure and come back Wednesday for my thoughts on missing my capsule wardrobe and 3 more ways to wear some paisley shorts – or any other pattern!
I haven’t done one of these for awhile, but lots has been happening in life lately. So I figured it was about time.
1. There’s our new little house. I’m not gonna lie to you . . . I miss my old house. I miss it a lot. We had just bought it and renovated it and it was my little dream house (for now). Then we got this opportunity that we couldn’t pass up, and so I had to say goodbye. It’s in safe hands now, and this little number isn’t so bad. It’s really nice actually.
2. On that note, moving 1200 miles away is not a journey I want to make again. We did the whole move ourselves. Just the two of us, my parents, a uhaul, and this little lady. She did so good on the 16 hours drive. She only asked ‘are we there yet’ 2 thousand times.
3. She and my parents stayed for a week to help us get settled (and see the beach), and I couldn’t let the time pass without a little Disney. We are only an hour and a half away after all.
4. She and her uncle had lots of bonding time over the week that they were here. Seriously it melts my heart. They created a new way of walking and they walked this way everywhere. Also, my husband has to wear a suit to work everyday . . . God is good.
5. Everyone’s been gone for almost 2 weeks now, so Iron man and I are trying to get into our new groove, find a church, and all that jazz. The only thing I’ve decided on is I will visit the beach every day – preferably in the morning to see the sun rise and spend some time with God.
How have the past few weeks been for you? I’d love to hear.
Today is my 29th birthday you guys. I don’t feel old, I’m not worried that in 365 (is next year a leap year so it’s 366?) days I’ll be 30. There are still many years ahead of me, and Iron Man and I are on our adventure in Florida so I must stay in my right mind. What’s left of it anyway 😉
I’m spending it with my girl Jenna at A Savory Feast where I’m sharing a new favorite dessert – Rainbow Sprinkle Cheesecake Cookies! They’re super moist like sugar cookies should be, but they have cream cheese . . . and sprinkles! The perfect birthday cookie for a cheesecake loving 29 year old.
And to celebrate I’ve got 2 goodies for you!
First, I’ve revamped my sponsorship program. I love sponsoring other blogs . . . helping another blogger by growing my blog with them. So now that I’m freelancing – that’s what I’m calling it now – and I have more time to spend on this blog, I’ve reevaluated things. Some spots have been added and the others were revamped so I can give more to my sponsors. I’m really excited about it and I’m committed to give my sponsors the best experience, and I hope you all will be excited too. Since it’s my birthday for the next week use the code ‘birthday’ to take 29% off any spot 🙂
AND I’ve got a little giveaway to celebrate and say thank you to all of you wonderful ladies! Yup, I’m calling it. I know there a few men and I appreciate you so much, but most of you are ladies and all ladies love Kate Spade. This lady loves amethyst and it’s her birthday so just leave a comment below with your favorite birthday memory for your chance to win a pair of Kate Spade Amethyst Emerald Cut Earrings! I’ll announce the winner on instagram and twitter Sunday.
I’ve talked about my love for coconut oil many times before, but other than that I have some how avoided essential oils. So much so that I’m confident coconut oil isn’t even an essential oil . . .
Even after my journey and love with coconut oil I still had a major acne problem. Growing up I never had an acne problem. I was lucky, but I also took care of my skin and took pride that it was working. When I turned 26 things changed. I started to have random, severe break outs. I was planning a wedding and had just lost my job so I was stressed to that max. They’d clear up fairly quick with a mask or a spot treatment so that was that. I wasn’t too concerned or I at least had more important things on my mind.
So when I knew the move to Florida was coming . . . and that meant even more stress . . . I started using Apothecary Extracts 100% Pure Australian Tea Tree oil to help with my acne problem. I started with a little spot treatment on new blemishes. Excited by the results I made a delightful mask . . .
To make this mask you will need a small container of regular greek yogurt and about 5 drops of tea tree oil.
Stir all your ingredients together in a bowl until they are nice and smooth. Use your fingers to apply your mask but be sure to steer clear of your eyes. If you get some in your eyes immediately rinse them out with cool water.
Your mask needs about 20 minutes to absorb and during this time it will become dry. Just be patient! Once the 20 minutes has passed rinse it off with lukewarm water and pat your face dry.
Things are getting so much better and very quickly with my acne problem. One thing I’ve learned is that it takes time. If you have an acne problem and it’s visible, you better believe that underneath there things are bad too. So things are going to worse before they get better. That’s a good thing because it means everything is clearing itself out. So don’t worry I’ll show off some before and after pictures soon, but I wanted to tell you about my new found love of tea tree oil before time passed any further. You can get it here !
Have you used tea tree oil? What are your favorite uses?
