the one with fall capsule review

December was finally the month that went way too fast for me. I really can’t believe it’s over . . . I’ve learned so much about my style this year – interior design and fashion. Doing a capsule wardrobe the past 3 months has really solidified that and even given me a clear picture of what I want my style to be and how I want it to evolve into 2015.

But today I just wanted to do a little fall capsule review . . .

capsulfavoriteswinter

those are my favorites up there . . . and here’s some lessons learned . . .

I don’t need so many clothes . . . I started this thing with 37 pieces including shoes – not including outerwear and accessories. Now I do only wear from my capsule 4 days a week, but there were items I never wore. And I still have ideas of how to wear some of the things I did wear. It’s hard to get rid of things in my closet that I see and think are cute, but I simply just don’t need them.

That makes getting dressed so much easier . . . I don’t look in the closet and think ‘ugh I haven’t worn that sweater all fall’ Instead, I look and say ‘i haven’t worn that sweater all fall . . . why? should I donate it?’ There are still going to be days when i’m frustrated with my closet, but only having a certain amount of clothes to wear makes those days even easier. and you don’t get closet guilt. . .

Most of my purchases are based on emotions. . . If I’m having a bad day, stressful day, or it’s just a random Tuesday and I happen to be at Target . . . I walk out with something to make me feel better. Most likely that’s a new blouse . . . sometimes it’s a package from old navy (which means I spent at least $50 for free shipping). During my fall capsule I just knew I couldn’t shop except for certain pieces. That made me search for good, quality pieces of those items and fill that shopping void in my heart elsewhere.

I’m a simple girl. Adding accessories to outfits to change things up and give it a whole new feel . . . that’s my jam. It is my favorite! Give me a t-shirt and some jeans and I’ll show you 12 different ways to wear it. Give me a pattern and I’ll show you how to wear it 2 or 3 different ways . . . then we’re done. Pattern is good and I want to include it, but I’ve learned I’m just not drawn to a lot of it.

Blogging . . . it took me awhile to really figure things out as far as how I wanted to blog about my capsule. I’ve enjoyed sharing all my outfits and some thoughts for the week, but that’s a lot to do every week. It also bugs me that not every picture is taken in the exact same spot. I wanted to do that for clarity and consistenty, but life and the weather happened.  So I’m changing things up for my winter capsule – Next week I’ll show you my capsule and why i chose certain items, every week I’ll feature 1 or 2 of my outfits, and at the end of the month I’ll do a little review.

I started this thing to save money during the holiday season and keep myself from making unnecessary purchases. I’m happy to say it worked! I loved all the outfits (except one) . . . I wore something different every day . . . and i’m buying quality pieces of the items I need instead of buying everything at Target . . . I love target but as an almost 30 year old women I think some of my wardrobe should not be from there.

There ya have it 2014 Fall Capsule wardrobe here on Butcher’s niche! I hope you enjoyed it! Will you be doing a winter capsule?
