Archives for December 2014

Month: December 2014

the one with 2014 in review

This year has been a year. It was neither extremely good nor extremely bad.  When you have the biggest year of your life, the year that follows has to be sort of let down, right? That was 2013 followed by 2014 for us. But it was not a let down; I would say it went much farther towards good – most definitely. Here’s a few highlights . . .

In January we rang in the new year at an amazing wedding! and then immediately got snowed in for 3 days. February continued the snow . . . 2014 was the 2nd snowiest winter ever on Indiana record. I never want to do that again.

March, iron man(my husband) turned the big 3-0 and I turned the still young and fabulous 28. I kid, I kid . . . he’s still as young and fine as ever especially his legs. April and May were spent in preparations for our vacation, and at the races (indycar to be clear)

4th race

June we celebrated our 1 year anniversary and headed to Fort Lauderdale. July we celebrated our great nation and BOUGHT A HOUSE! After blogging for a year I finally started joining in on the community behind it all.

August we renovated that house and our marriage survived. #victory September we finally got to move in! The 9th month also took me to the life changing influence conference.

October and November were a wonderful beginning to the holidays. Halloween was our best yet! In November a lovely sisterhood was formed and for Thanksgiving I got to host my first official Thanksgiving at our new house with both sides of the family.

And December, o December my favorite. you were good to Iron Man and Pepper. My bestie (that’s her up there) got engaged and christmas!

I feel as if 2014 is ending on it’s highest note, and that note will continue into 2015. We’ll have Rachel’s wedding, another trip to Fort Lauderdale, hopefully some advances in my career, the finalization of some exciting advances in the hubs career, and prepping for me to turn 30 . . . which will hopefully bring all sorts of changes to our family 😉

Lots of changes, but this here blog will stay much the same. I hope that’s ok with all of you. Right now I blog 5-6 days a week and it truly is a life style blog that focuses more on style. Next year I plan to only be here 4-5 times a week and get more centered around style – while remaining a lifestyle blog. If that makes any sense at all . . . at least I know what I’m talking about.

I appreciate all of you so very much for coming here and reading what I have to say. My life has changed for the better since I finally joined the blogging community in July and it’s because of all of you. I feel welcomed and loved and I hope I help you feel the same.

Cheers to 2015 . . .

the one about Evian Facial Spray

Hey you cute little friends of mine! I’ve missed you this week and I hope you had a wonderful holiday like iron man and I did. I’m just stopping by today to tell you about one of my new favorite products.

Earlier this year I finally heard about all the good things that come with a facial mist. Silly me had thought they were just for cooling down or refreshing your face and I couldn’t see the point in that when i was always cold anyway and almost always have makeup on. But when I had a big wedding to go to I figured out that they help set, refresh and give a more natural look to your makeup! As I do with most beauty purchases, I turned to elf. With products I’m unsure about I like to make a minimal financial investment … If it works I’ll see if the pricier products are worth the investment if it doesn’t I’m not out much.

Guess what … I loved it … And guess what else … The pricier versions are worth it … I loved my original mist which you can find here but when it ran out and I started using evian mineral spray I definitely saw some benefits I had missed out on.
1. Let’s start with the obvious … Yes it does refresh your skin. Feel hot, sticky, melty, … Give your self a little spray and you’ll feel much better
2. Not only does it refresh a muggy face but it can refresh your makeup. Sometimes even the longest lasting makeup just looks a little dull after awhile … Give yourself a little spray and your makeup will look like you just put it on.
3. Don’t have time to give yourself a refresh during the day … Then use the Evian mineral spray to set your makeup after you’ve just out it on. Not only will it stay in place all day long, but the spray will help the foundation set in to give it a more natural look.
4. In the winter my skin is extra dry … I use a special moisturizer for just the dry weather but once I started using Evian mineral spray after cleansing but before my moisturizer I can absolutely feel more hydration. I didn’t feel that with the other mists I’ve used.
5. The Evian mineral spray comes in an aerosol can (many sizes available) which gives it a wide mist so all you have to do is give it one circular spray and your whole face is covered … Beneficial and easy … Boom
6. My most recent and favorite discover is it helps some powder makeup products go on in a cream/wet formula. I have a just regular old mineral powder eye shadow  . . . I sprayed a little evian on my brush, dabbed the brush in the shadow and BOOM cream eye shadow.
Evian mineral spray is in my must have products now, and I urge you all to try it!!
* brandbacker supplied me with s bottle of Evian mineral spray to review but all opinions are 100% my own*

the one with fall capsule review

December was finally the month that went way too fast for me. I really can’t believe it’s over . . . I’ve learned so much about my style this year – interior design and fashion. Doing a capsule wardrobe the past 3 months has really solidified that and even given me a clear picture of what I want my style to be and how I want it to evolve into 2015.

But today I just wanted to do a little fall capsule review . . .

those are my favorites up there . . . and here’s some lessons learned . . .

I don’t need so many clothes . . . I started this thing with 37 pieces including shoes – not including outerwear and accessories. Now I do only wear from my capsule 4 days a week, but there were items I never wore. And I still have ideas of how to wear some of the things I did wear. It’s hard to get rid of things in my closet that I see and think are cute, but I simply just don’t need them.

That makes getting dressed so much easier . . . I don’t look in the closet and think ‘ugh I haven’t worn that sweater all fall’ Instead, I look and say ‘i haven’t worn that sweater all fall . . . why? should I donate it?’ There are still going to be days when i’m frustrated with my closet, but only having a certain amount of clothes to wear makes those days even easier. and you don’t get closet guilt. . .

Most of my purchases are based on emotions. . . If I’m having a bad day, stressful day, or it’s just a random Tuesday and I happen to be at Target . . . I walk out with something to make me feel better. Most likely that’s a new blouse . . . sometimes it’s a package from old navy (which means I spent at least $50 for free shipping). During my fall capsule I just knew I couldn’t shop except for certain pieces. That made me search for good, quality pieces of those items and fill that shopping void in my heart elsewhere.

I’m a simple girl. Adding accessories to outfits to change things up and give it a whole new feel . . . that’s my jam. It is my favorite! Give me a t-shirt and some jeans and I’ll show you 12 different ways to wear it. Give me a pattern and I’ll show you how to wear it 2 or 3 different ways . . . then we’re done. Pattern is good and I want to include it, but I’ve learned I’m just not drawn to a lot of it.

Blogging . . . it took me awhile to really figure things out as far as how I wanted to blog about my capsule. I’ve enjoyed sharing all my outfits and some thoughts for the week, but that’s a lot to do every week. It also bugs me that not every picture is taken in the exact same spot. I wanted to do that for clarity and consistenty, but life and the weather happened.  So I’m changing things up for my winter capsule – Next week I’ll show you my capsule and why i chose certain items, every week I’ll feature 1 or 2 of my outfits, and at the end of the month I’ll do a little review.

I started this thing to save money during the holiday season and keep myself from making unnecessary purchases. I’m happy to say it worked! I loved all the outfits (except one) . . . I wore something different every day . . . and i’m buying quality pieces of the items I need instead of buying everything at Target . . . I love target but as an almost 30 year old women I think some of my wardrobe should not be from there.

There ya have it 2014 Fall Capsule wardrobe here on Butcher’s niche! I hope you enjoyed it! Will you be doing a winter capsule?

When I think of Christmas, I think of sitting in my parents living room.

IMG_4876 IMG_4877

all my nieces and nephews are busy playing with their new presents (or on their phones),

IMG_4880 IMG_4884 IMG_4889

my oldest niece and I are sitting at the table gossiping and making plans for our next beauty adventure,

IMG_4883 IMG_4887

my mother is in the kitchen cooking and yelling about something (because that’s her normal tone of voice) my sister in law is helping- but not yelling,

IMG_4886 IMG_4888

my brother is making jokes and my sister is laughing hysterically, my brother in law sits next to her quietly laughing – you know it’s really funny when you actually hear Victor laugh,

and my dad is just sitting in the corner with a smirk on his face because something is about to go down that no one else knows about . . . in recent years my husband has joined the insanity and is usually parked right next to dad with that same smirk.

There is peace, chaos, joy, teasing, excitement, noise, love, and family in that room.

O . . . and cheesecake . . . there’s always Thelma’s Cheesecake

Capsule Wardrobe #10 – the finale

It’s the finale. The end of all things capsule wardrobe :: fall 2014.

Yes there is still time in December left . . . but next week i’m pulling out everything red and green I own and wearing all of it, everyday. Especially the shirt with Santa’s face on it. And then it’s all about sparkles and pj pants to ring in the new year.

But not really because I’ll be doing a review next week.

And the week after I’m going to introduce Capsule wardrobe :: Winter 2015. Are you excited?

Here’s the outfits from capsule wardrobe #10 . . .

weather update . . .

the weather is the weather. there will be no white christmas in the hoosier state this year.

weekly thoughts . . .

This weeks activities included lots of holiday movies at home with Iron Man (including wolf of wall street), going to the mooovie theeeateher with Amauri and Me’Sean to see the new Annie, and Christmas with my fam bam.

If you scroll up, the floor gets cleaner. It’s like one of those flip books

Don’t worry I finally got my bangs cut – it’s been 3 weeks of this flat bangs or off to the side situation. I’m not ready for full time side swept again so a trim was needed.

outfit #4 – is in the top 2 favorites of the Fall capsule. The other one is also with the red dress. I’m still a little torn as to whether or not to include the red dress in winter’s capsule because it’s short . . . but I think it’s just going to end up being in all of my capsules forever and ever, amen.

Side notes:: I’m basically taking the rest of the year off from blogging to rest and relax and gear up for an amazing 2015. There will be a couple random posts thrown in to round out the year, but nothing too spectacular. If you do happen to comment I will be checking in and dong some cleaning up so hopefully I find the time to respond. If not know that I love you still and I will see you back here on January 5th, 2015!

Oh, and i’ll be all over the instagram still find me @butchersniche

the one with all the Christmas movies

I have a terrible confession to make. It’s really devastating to say out loud. But it’s time I tell the world.

I have only watched 2 Christmas movies so far this year.

The utter shame I feel inside is incomprehensible. The worst part . . . 1 of them was Christmas with the Krank’s. Yes, it’s Tim Allen. Yes, it’s funny . . . but there are so many more better movies . . . yes i meant to say it like that.

Sometimes bad grammar adds emphasis.

I know you’ve seen lots and lots of these posts around so I’m gonna be 100% legit with you right now . . . this post is basically my to do list for this weekend. . .  it is all for me. Hopefully if you’ve made it this far you have appreciated the witty things I have to say . . .

1. First and foremost I will be watching Christmas Vacation.  I am a proud member of the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse.

download (1)

2. I am a child of the 90’s. My favorite quote from this movie is not ‘keep the change ya filthy animal’ but yet when he explains his hygiene. ‘I took a shower washing every body part with actual soap; including all my major crevices; including in between my toes and in my belly button, which I never did before but sort of enjoyed. I washed my hair with adult formula shampoo and used cream rinse for that just-washed shine. I can’t seem to find my toothbrush, so I’ll pick one up when I go out today. Other than that, I’m in good shape.’ It took me until I was 28 years to reazlie why his tooth brush being missing was of any significance.

I am 28 so I just realized it . . .

download (2)

3. Sometimes I watch this movie not at Christmas time just to make myself feel better about life and remind myself to happy all the time. because smiling is my favorite and purple is my favorite color . . .

download (3)

4. the original and only the original. ‘seeing isn’t believing. believing is seeing.’

download (5)

5. i’ve never seen it before . . . yet another confession . . .i’m so sorry friends.

What’s on your movie to do list for the holidays?

the one with new years eve plans

I know Christmas hasn’t passed yet, but New Years eve is right around the corner. I can’t imagine not being awake to ring in the new year! It’s a fresh start, a new beginning, and the end of what was hopefully a year of big and good things in life.

I also fell in love with my iron man 4 years ago on New Years Eve. It feels like I’ve known him forever, but it’s only been 4 years! <3 heart eyes<3

As much as I like to get dressed up and could use a reason to buy a new tulle skirt, I can think of nothing better than a relaxing night at home with friends. Here’s my new years eve plans . . .

I feel like these invites give off exactly the vibe we’re going for. Plus we can just email them all from our couch . . .

Until the past couple years, new years eve was usually spent out at bars. So to keep our pallets with what they are accustomed to, we’ll be serving bar food. Pizza. wings. popcorn. nachos. Each main thing with customizable toppings, pizza bar, popcorn bar, nacho bar,  . . . see what I did there

popcorn bar

For dessert we’ll keep it simple! hot chocoloate bar, cupcake clock, maybe some fruity tarts

Beer. and beer. o! and water for the lady with child that will be there. that lady is not me . . . I’ll be drinking these champagne cocktails with a star stirrer.

Pj’s is where it’s at ya’ll. not your naughtiest . . . your comfiest. I will most likely wear a sparkly tank top and my purple velour pants from 1999. Style and comfort.

pj pants

I’ll probably keep it simple here too, but considering my love for decorating at all the holidays I probably won’t. The mantel will definitely get some fun updates with some garland, the chalkboard, and some fun photo props! This isn’t a mantel – I know – but it’s my inspiration for our photobooth/mantel and the buffet.

I’ll probably play it fast and loose as far as activities. We’ll have the board games out, maybe some minute to win it games ready, movies picked out, and a hot play list on at all times. But other than that we’ll see what the night might bring 🙂

What are your plans for new years eve?

the one with 2014 beauty favorites

Seeing as how I’m a woman in my late twenties, my hormones are achangin  . . .

That’s an exciting thing to say to start a post! I love to try out new beauty products, and those hormones upped the ante for that. Throughout the year I’ve tried to share my new favorites with you every month and the end of the year should be no different.

tea tree mask – $15 and it lasts me 6 months and refreshes my of my oily, acne prone skin. That’s a deal in my book. Add in the fact that if I have any newer blemishes they’re gone the morning after I use this . . . I couldn’t ask for anything more.

naked pallette 2 – it took me a minute to fork over the cash for this. I like my beauty products to work and be inexpensive. They’re just so many good drug store products out there. But sometimes you just need the good stuff . .

coconut oil – a life saver and a multitasker.

tarte mascara – fuller, longer, and curvey lashes

revlon lipgloss – If you’ve been around the blog for a day or two you probably already know how much I love a good bold lip. Revlon always has my favorite colors and the new trends to try at super reasonable prices (between $4 and $10). Plus they don’t fall off by 10am or smear or lose their sheen.

almay liquid eyeliner – I actually wear liquid eyeliner everyday. and this one is my new favorite. it’s easy to draw on, lasts all day, and the point makes it easy to add to the line for a cat eye or get a nice small crisp line for your everyday natural look.

beauty blender – it just works. I still haven’t figured out why it works better than all the rest, but it does. plus they smell really good.

There ya are my favorites from 2014! 2015 is almost here and I plan on continuing to share my favorites to you as I go! Sephora and I will continue our love affair, and I’d love to help you with yours as well! I’ve teamed up with some other fabulous bloggers to give one lucky reader a chance with a $115 Sephora gift card. Enter below and make sure you go check out these amazing ladies!

the one with my wish list

Today we’re rounding out the Christmas gift guides with my wish list. So basically this is Iron Man’s gift guide (I know you haven’t been shopping yet) mywishlist2014 sugar paper planner :: these sugar paper planners at Target are the perfect size for me, and they’re super detailed! the best part – they’re under $20! I know there are some awesome planners out there for bloggers, but I just can’t fathom spending that much on one . . . willies :: purple, wide calf, size 8. If I don’t get these I’ll be ordering them myself at the after Christmas sales. they’ve been on my wish list  long enough it’s time to purchase 🙂 sweater :: It got cold quicker than usual this year, and my capsule wardrobe did not have enough sweaters in it. So I’m thinking ahead to my winter capsule . . . standmixer :: I obviously want a kitchenaide, but that’s not in the budget right now so I’d just like an updated hand mixer and one with a stand to go with is the perfect compromise, right!? rose gold watch :: I had one and I LOVED it. But it broke . .  time for a new one. glam glow :: I’ve heard so many good things about these masks so I need to try them. This gift set is the price of the mask, but you get 2 more products!! win, win. 3 wick candle :: I always appreciate getting new candles. 3 wicks in almost any scent that is white or berry I love!   What’s on your wish list this year?

capsule wardrobe #9

There is only 1 more week left in my capsule wardrobe. It’s gone by really quickly you guys. There are several shirts that have not been worn . . . and will not be worn next week. I did – hopefully you’re excited to find out – make the decision to do a winter capsule January thru March 2015. This first round taught me a lot and I think I’m very ready to continue and do it better next time.

Here’s capsule wardrobe #9 . . .

Weather update . . .

Hello 50 degrees everyday of this weekend. It was very nice to see you. Although I would like a white christmas, if you stuck around I’d deal with it.

Weekly thoughts . . .

It was a busy weekend (reminder that all my outfits are worn Thursday thru Sunday because of work uniforms Monday thru Wednesday) Thursday date night (outfit 1), Friday Christmas play with brother’s family (outfit 3) , Saturday fun day (outfit 2), Sunday Christmas lunch with my bestie (outfit 4) and a show at a hipster bar with the sister (repeat outfit 3).

My nephews the Atrain wanted to go see a Christmas play so we tagged along . . . it was white christmas by a local theater. It was awesome – mostly the time with family. Those 3 boys have turned into the coolest kids around. #proudauntie

My friend Shanna is probably my oldest and closest friend. She is the best. Yesterday she gave me what I’m sure will end up being my favorite Christmas present of 2014.

My sister and i went to see a lovely and funny Christmas show yesterday by some local radio DJ’s (smiley for you locals) LOVED it! and love my seeeester.

It was a really great weekend, and this might have been my favorite week of capsule outfits.

I finally changed the chalkboard from Thanksgiving to Christmas!
