everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend . . .

I would say just singin’ a little Rebecca Black, but when I think of that song I think of the glee cast version

because it’s way better

Today is my mama’s birthday! I love her so much, she’s my best friend, my confidant, my mama. Happy Birthday lady. . .

anyways, here’s a couple few (my husband hates it when people say that) things that happened this week. . .

1.We went camping/cliff diving for my bro-in-law’s birfday. It was a pretty amazing time. We have plans to go back. I have no idea when seeing as we close on our house in 3 weeks and then the flooring adventures begin. But it’s a plan.

2. I start some classes on being a virtual assistant today. I’M THRILLED! I think it’s going to be a good fit.

3. my birchbox came this week. I got a new brow pencil 🙂 but other than that it confirmed that I need to change my profile.

4. I did however get a new wallet. and I’m in love.

5. And finally . . . remember back in April when I told you all about a fun new beauty site here . . . well, I’ve continued to play around on the site, and I LOVE it! It’s gotten much more user friendly. One of the co-founders, Agustina, asked me to make one of my looks come to life for their new summer campaign! So I did and sent her pictures! Go check it out . . .Glamst!

Community Brew – marriage talk

I don’t talk about my faith a lot here on the blog. Not because it’s not important to me or because it’s not there, but because I don’t consider myself a good teacher. I grew up in a very god-centered house. My mother is the most faithful person I know, my father was an elder in the church until about 5 years ago . . . church was 3 days a week . . . if school or sports conflicted with church times I didn’t go. I felt resentful . . . so when college came I rebelled a little . . . ok, a lot . . . and honestly I’m still trying to find my footing. But yesterday as I was spending most of my morning reading through some of the posts on the link up with Madison of The Wetherills Say I Do and Rachel of Oh Simple Thoughts there was one verse I couldn’t get out of my head.

community brew link up
1 Corinthians 7:32-35
32 I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. 33 But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, 34 and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband. 35 I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord.

As I was reading this yesterday, it really struck a cord with me because of how negative towards marriage it sounds. Paul is saying there are more worries, more anxiety, more worldy temptations for the married man.

And I disagree.
But to disagree with Paul  . . . to disagree with the bible . . . what was I not seeing?

Even at 28 I can count on mom to put it in perspective right?
God wouldn’t put marriage into his plan if it wasn’t worth it, but he also doesn’t make things easy does he? Paul is just warning us to why it’s so important we choose to right partner.  Someone will is willing to work with you to take those anxieties away. This guy does that for me.  Everyday is a learning experience of what I’m more comfortable doing because I’m a stronger woman with his support.
thanks for listening to my sappy post for today guys 🙂
What stage are you guys at in your marriage? Are you single and frustrated? I’ve been there, it really does get better.

the one with end of summer bathing suits

Bathing suits are always a hard fit me . . . I’m very curvy and need lots of support up top, most importantly I don’t wish to spend 100’s of dollars on a bikini top with built in underwire.

Target has had awesome racer back tankini’s that give me the support I need for a couple years now and I love the two I have. But in the last yearwith this new found body acceptance I have, I’ve wanted to try a bikini. My tummy area and the fact that I only used a bathing suit about 3 times a year always stopped me.

Well this year we’ve been to the pool ALOT, lakes twice, and to the beach. Plus our new neighborhood has a pool that we can see from our driveway . . . so I think it might be time to invest.

Here’s the ones I’ve got my eye on . . .

To do lists . . .

If you want to find out even more about me than you did yesterday head on over to A Worker at home. I’m so excited to be a sponsor on Katie’s blog for the next few weeks, PLUS there’s a giveaway! Be sure to enter!  If you’re here from there, welcome! Please leave a comment so I can be sure to properly say hello!

Every day I write out a to do list of what I want to get done in order of importance. this is really the only form of ‘goals’ I usually have. I don’t even usually do New years resolutions . . . I’ve just never really been a goal oriented person, but I’ve noticed lately there are things that are in the ‘I need to do this soon’ category that never get put on a list . . . and therefore rarely get done.

So with that realization and being inspired to put a plan of action to some things I think about in regards to the blog, I’ve decided to do a ‘monthly to do list’  which will consists of my goals for the month. I probably won’t share them on the blog every month, but I figured I would this month to keep myself accountable . . .

New house ideas!

If you haven’t go check out Christine’s blog . . . I have the pleasure of sponsoring her blog this month and getting to know her. She’s a nifty gal, and it’s truly been a joy. Today she’s a q&a with yours truly!**

If you’ve been reading the blog for at least a couple weeks or were in the vicinity of Indianapolis to hear my screams of delight . . . then you know the hubs and I just bought a new house. It’s a delightful 3 bedroom in an awesome neighborhood. with lots of projects for me to delve into . . . but nothing that might break the house so my husband can keep his sanity. Mortgage is all set, inspection was good . . . so we’re just waiting until August 8th to close!

The blog is not going to change into something like YHL even though I love John and Sherry, but the past week was busy doing house stuff  so I have no new beauty or outfit posts set for Monday like I usually do. Luckily, Funday Monday link up this week is all about home décor so I thought I would share some ideas I have for the new house.

The 2 bedrooms (there are 3, but 1 ’bedroom’ will be our office) in our house will most likely be the first thing I tackle and get completed first once we’re in. Once the floors are done these rooms will just need some paint, a few inexpensive new items, and dĂ©cor so they’ll be easy fixes. . . here’s my plans . . .

For our bedroom we just bought a king size bed and I made a dark purple headboard to go along with it. I still love them both and all of our bedding. So those are what I’m basing the rest of my choices on . . .

1.To accent the bedding colors and keep the room bright and airy a light grey like Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter will work perfectly!

2. I lOVE these curtains from ikea. I think I’m going to just go ahead and buy them now. The dark purple ones we have now are nice, but I want something more whimsical

3.Since the floors in here will be hardwood (or at least not carpet) I gotta get a rug so the hubs has something soft to put his feet on at 5 in the am. This dark grey one from Target will anchor the room and the print will keep it simple.

4.We have a habit that I hate, but can’t get us out of – throwing our clothes at the end of the bed on two stools we have now. Those stools have got to go so if I get a bench similar to this it will at least make the mess of clothes prettier – maybe even convince me not to so I can see the bench.

5. I love my husband’s new Tarva dresser we fancied up for him and while I love the one we fancied up for me I’d prefer the longer Tarva so everything matches perfect and we have even more storage.

6. I love the simplicity and love in these black and white art. Add these with a few wedding photos and a big mirror.

Our master bath is attached and luckily it’s been updated! But everything is dark in there – cabinets, mirrors and walls. The mirrors are similar to those above so if I can’t just paint them white these will work beautifully! A light purple paint and some darker purple bathroom rugs will tie it in with the bedroom and keep it light and airy. There isn’t much wall space in there except above the toilet so I’m going to see what’s left of the wall art we already have before I decide for sure. I may only need our monogramed towels that we got for the wedding!

guest room

The guest room is a small ackwardly shaped room. So I’m hoping to fit our old bed, a nightstand, and either a dresser or bookshelf that’s currently in our office . . . I’m just not sure how it’s gonna fit. I definetly need some curtains in there also, but I can’t find any I like yet.

  1. Ever since young house love painted their guest room this color blue I’ve been dreaming of painting a room this color!
  2. I love these pillows so much I have already bought them. AND what goes better with peacock blue walls than peacock pillows!! Pillows
  3. As far as the other bedding I’m hoping to just grab a bed in a bag during the college sales at Target. That way I have sheets, shams, and a comforter that match and will be comfy for the few guests we might have overnight. This one so far is my favorite. I definetly want to keep it a lighter color to brighten up the room.
  4. Our old bed frame is a darker wood so I’m hoping to diy a nightstand out of pallet wood that I can stain to match – like this one from the shanty chic.
  5. Since the room is small wall art will be minimal. I’m thinking a diy mirror over the bed in the colors of the pillows.

2nd bathThe 2nd bath will compliment the guest room, but not be full of peacocks 🙂 It is also recently updated, but dark. So the walls are going white! The brightest white I can find! The shower curtain will be a blue ombre from Target we already have. Then I’ll accent that blue with these towels from Target and some printables from etsy  – maybe these from chalk and canvas so there’s a little peacock. The mirror right now is builders grade so it’ll be replaced. I’m thinking something fun like this one at home depot – but if I have to replace the ones in the master then one of those will have to do in here.

What do you think? Anybody else out there have their list of things to do in their house, new or old?

Friday, Friday.

Heyooo! the work week was crazy you guys. It’s definetly one of those Friday’s where I’m extra excited for the weekend. tonight we’re going to a street party in a small town about 30 minutes from us and Saturday we’ll be camping and cliff diving with family and friends! It’ll be a nice break from work and house buying stress! Here’s 5 more awesome things that happened this week . . .

1. the hubs and I had a cookout at our house on the 4th, and then we all drove out to my old work parking lot to watch the fireworks. there’s a lake on the property that made it the perfect setting.

2. the next day we went to several different hardware stores and picked out the flooring for our new house! I can’t wait to close and get started!

3. I went dumpster diving and found some AWESOME art just being thrown away . . .

4. this lady blew up her very own hello kitty beach ball for the pool. all. by. herself. I’m pretty sure I was over the age of 18 before I could blow up even a balloon up by myself so I was certainly impressed.

5. I made delicious mango salsa that I can’t wait to share the recipe for!

I hope your weeks were less stressful, but just as wonderful as mine. And that all of our weekends are relaxing.

We bought a house!

Since I shared a recipe with you on Tuesday I just wanted to stop by and tell you some wonderful news happening around our little side of the world!

The hubs and I bought a house! It’s a little 3 bedroom cottage in an awesome neighborhood that’s perfect for us! I cannot wait for August 8th to get here so we can close and immediately get to work!

It is no fixer upper, but the floors in 90% of the house need replaced before we can move in. The kitchen and bathrooms have a nice ceramic tile, but the rest is 20 year old carpet. We’ve decided to tackle that ourselves with the help of people we trust know what they’re doing as well as painting all the walls before we move in.

We can’t wait to get started!

Stress Shopping

On the 4th of July my husband and I went out to look at new appliances for our new house . . . we’ve saved the money to get new ones that are up to my standards – which is high for a kitchen. But even thought we’ve saved our money to get our new appliances . . . we can’t buy them yet . . . It’s not good to spend that much money before closing on a mortgage.

It’s our money that we worked hard to save . . . and we’ll still be able to afford the house afterwards . . .

so it’s frustrating . . . and when I’m frustrated I eat . . . but that’ll make me more frustrated so I’ve decided to shop . . .

I bought this kimono to make myself feel better.

It worked.

Strawberry muffins!

Last week I made some strawberry nutella pies (you can find the recipe here) for a blog hop with these lovely ladies Hello Happiness, Nat Your Average Girl, Running From The Law, Meet the Sullivan’s, Strawberry Swing and Other Things, This Woman Cooks, Everyday Love, Love and Life Simplified and Words About Waverly!

Each recipe submitted was matched up with another blogger’s recipe so we could put our own spin on things – my match was Strawberry Sprinkle Donuts from Erinn at  Strawberry Swing and Other Things! I was very excited to have a breakfast dish so I could whip it up for the hubs and I on the 4th before our cookout that evening.

Not gonna lie I was a little nervous because I’ve never made donuts before AND I also didn’t have a donut pan. . . but the whole point was to put our own spin on things so I made muffins! I used the exact same recipe . . . just with a few alterations.

These were super delicious! I plan to make them again with some of the ingredients I had leftover. Since they were muffins, I wanted them to be warm which caused the frosting to melt a bit. It was worth it, but if you didn’t want to make the frosting they would be just as good with some cream cheese or jam.

ingredients ::

1 cup flour . . . instead of whole wheat just as erinn suggested

6 tbsp. sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 cup your favorite strawberry yogurt

3 tbsp. milk

1 egg

1/2 tsp vanilla

1 tbsp. butter

for frosting ::

4 strawberries

1 tbsp. milk

2 cups powdered sugar

sprinkles, optional

I set my oven to 350 instead of 325 – I assumed it would take a little longer to make muffins than donuts and the extra temperature would help.

In a large bowl, mix together the dry ingredients (1 cup whole wheat flour, 6 tbsp. sugar, 1 tsp baking powder). In a seperate small bowl, mix together the wet ingredients (1/4 cup your favorite strawberry yogurt, 3 tbsp. milk, 1 egg, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1 tbsp. butter).

Then slowly mix wet ingredients into dry – just until it looks like normal muffin mix. Spoon mix into greased muffin pan filling each 2/3 of the way full.

bake for 17-20 minutes.

While the muffins bake, take 4 strawberries and puree it with a little milk. slowly sift in powdered sugar until you’ve reached the consistency and color you prefer. Both Erinn and I like thicker frosting so we went with a full 2 cups of powdered sugar.
