Hair care favorites

If you followed my beauty posts at all then you should know that doin’ hair is not really my thang. But keeping it healthy is my thang . . . by accident. Anybody who has ever cut/colored it for me comments on how thick and healthy it is.

Well the thickness I got from my mama . . .all of the thickness not just the hair.

And the healthy is pretty much because I don’t know how to style it myself so product or heat damage is at the minimal . . . so it’s an accident that I have embraced.

I do want to look presentable and I am proud of my healthy hair so I try to put some effort into it on a daily basis. Here’s what I am currently using :

haircare

Hairdryer: I blow dry my hair every other day after my morning shower. I have used this particular one since I was 16 (that’s more than 10 years), and only replaced it once. It gets my hair dry in under 10 minutes, is easy to hold, and it’s pretty. I’m sure there are better professional grade ones out there, but I really like this one and for $20 you can’t beat it.

Hairbrush: I recently cut a few inches off my hair, and I wanted a new brush to go with the new look. So I did some research and figured out I needed a vented paddle brush for what I wanted – smoothness. This was my choice and so far, so good.

Comb: I found this many years ago at Sally’s when I finally learned wet hair needs a comb not a brush – thanks Shanna! And I still have the same one. I love it so much.

Curling Iron: The rare occasion I will curl my hair I use this Hot Tool’s one at 1”. I’ve only had mine for about 2 years, but I absolutely love it. It makes me want to experiment and get better at curling hair. There is a similar flat iron that I really want because my flat iron right now is embarrassing.

Gel: Before every blow dry I put this in to smooth my hair down and keep my bangs in place. It was recommended to me by the last person to cut my hair, and so far so good. I’ve struggled to find a good gel that doesn’t tangle my hair for some reason, and keeps the cow lick at the front in place. This seems to be doing the job. If that changes I’ll let you know.

Dry shampoo: On mornings I don’t wash my hair I put a little of this in on the roots. I do like this one, but I like Oscar Bandi more. The one thing I notice with dry shamps is the white residue they leave. Oscar and tresemme do not do that!

Zuppa – paleo style

The hubs and I really enjoy having lazy Sundays. He’s laughing as he reads this because his definition of lazy is vastly different than mine. Like yesterday I prepped our lunches for the week ahead and he put together our new TV stand while we both did laundry . . . But I only got dressed for church and those 2 hours were all we did . . . BUT none the less cooking dinner on a Sunday evening is not high on my to do list so that I can keep up on my ‘lazy Sunday’. So within the last few months I decided to make Sunday evenings all about soup. This recipe is my favrite that I discovered so far. All it takes is about 10 minutes of prep time and about 4 hours in the crock pot. It is my version of the Paleo Cupboard’s Zuppa Toscana Soup.

zuppa1

8 cups chicken/beef stock

2 sweet potatoes

1lb sausage

4 cups chopped kale

1 cup almond milk

salt and pepper to taste

1 medium onion – chopped in your shape choice (circles, squares, triangles, slivers . . . whatever your mouth prefers)

2 cloves garlic – same as above

Brown your sausage on a skillet. Cut up all your veggies. Add everything to your crock pot and let sit on low for about 4 hours. Eat it. Enjoy it. Revel in the ease and comfort of a lazy Sunday.

Boom!

Radiant Orchid

I’ve been slacking this week on posts. It’s been busy around here! We’ve got 2 birthdays this weekend and my husbands 30th coming very soon – as well as my 28th! I’ve got some posts for next week all ready to go though so problem fixed!

To know me, is to know my love of the color purple. So when I found out that Pantone’s color of the year was radiant orchid, there was a mini dance party that happened. Purple will be everywhere this year, and I’m so thrilled. I wanted to find more ways to wear it than just nail color or some fun clothes. Thankfully, I was not the only one.

Mac came out with an older color of there’s called heroine – found here. My niece Elizabeth purchased it and let me try it out. Don’t you love it when you get to try something before you buy it! Especially $16 lipstick called heroine . . .

End result, I love it. It lasted for over 8 hours and through 2 meals. It was so smooth going on, like chapstick. And that color is just so . . . radiant!

For your viewing pleasure to keep it real ’round here . . . I decided to try and take some fun pictures outside while I was walking to my car. It was one of the two days that got above 30 degrees here in Indy and it was sunny and beautiful . . . . and windy . . . a fashion photographer I am not . .

Birthday Wish list

It’s March! also known as Birthday month . . . My husband and I both have birthdays at the end of this month along with several friends and family members. It really is a month long celebration for us, and we couldn’t love it more. So to start the month off right, and a fun new way to let my husband know what I want I decided to post my wish list here on the blog for all to see . . .

wishlist

mason jar candle – I love bath and body works candles especially when you can get them on sale. now they come in cute mason jars aka made for me.

photoshop – I’m really starting to like this whole design/picture taking thing for the blog so I’d really love to have photoshop.

ballett slippers– obviously for my cold feet, these just happen to be cute and at target! (size 8, Scott)

Essie allinone – I love getting a new mani, but I don’t have time to go see a professional every week. I’ve heard rave reviews about this helping them last longer, and helping an at home mani look better.

orchid earrings – Earrings are always a quick and easy gift that I love to give. These are adorable ones from one of my favorite bloggers/etsy shops.

Popcorn – I have a problem with popcorn . . .

nightstands – A new mattress is on our radar for very soon, and I would love to have a whole new room re-do to go with it – starting with these nightstands that I will obviously make ours.

Tarte face mask –  Every Monday night I treat my self and my face to 25 minutes of down time complete with a fast mask. this is the next on my list to try per Kate from the small things blog reviews.
