Leather Strap shelves

Our bedroom really needed some shelves for me to hold all my jewelry, so of course I made them.

My sister had given me a pallet with some bigger boards at the top and the bottom. I used to two of them to make the art piece in our bedroom, and the other two for my shelves. If you would need to go to the hardwood store for some I would recommend 3ft x 7″.

Once they were pried off, we drilled 1″ holes in them where we wanted the leather straps to go. Then stained them (kona by rustoleum to match everything else in our house.

I got two leather belt straps without the buckel on amazon and made a simple knot 3 inches up on both of them. After I fed it through the hole and secured the knot right underneath the board, I measured up on one to make a 2nd knot where I wanted. Once I had it placed safely I used a tape measure to see where to make the knot on the 2nd strap. All done!

Now to place it . . . I figured out where I wanted it on the wall and put a drywall nail thru the leather strap into the wall. It held it very securely with just that! But once I started to put stuff on the bottom shelf it wouldn’t balance – even with very light stuff it would start to tilt or bow in the middle. So I went to the hardware store and picked up some corner brackets. I secured it with 2 . . . one on each side . . . and viola! The best part is you can’t even really see them.

High Five for Friday

Since I’ve been missing in action on these for awhile. I thought I would share my favorite things from this year so far. and whatddaya know, most of them involve my little people.

1. Like this beaut of my newest nephew, Justin!

2. Scott and I started the year off right at a wonderful NYE wedding. It was the 2nd best NYE ever only after the year we met.

3. I love it that my nephews all love each other. Austin just turned 16, and Mesean couldn’t be more excited for him.

5. Somehow I have managed to spend two whole weekends with just my niece, Amauri. She definetly has some characteristics like her Aunti . . . she looooves to help me clean and cook.

Meatballs and Zoodles

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite meals! I LOVE spaghetti and meatballs . . . and I have a really good recipe that I adapted from my mom’s and what I like on my own. But with our new ‘inspired by paleo’ lifestyle grains = pasta so I don’t have it unless it’s a treat. This recipe is the next best thing, and honestly I might even like it better. (people who know me personally are freakin’ out right now at that statement) Here’s what you need . . .

final

1lb of ground beef

1 egg

1tspn garlic powder

1 tspn paprika

salt and pepper to taste

4 zuccini

1 cup marianara sauce

balls

Preheat your oven to 350 and mix everything but the zuccini and sauce in with the ground beef just like a regular meatball. Use a spoon or an ice cream scoop to make 12 balls or 6 big balls – place in a foil lined baking sheet. Pour the marinara sauce over each meatball evenly and bake for 20-30 minutes.

zoodles

While the meatballs bake, use your veggie pealer to peal up all the zuccini. Heat some oil or cooking spray on a skillet and cook like you would sliced zuccini (about 5 minutes on medium heat flipping/stirring as you go). I like to add some lowry’s seasoning salt in there to give it some extra flavor. Serve the meatballs and extra sauce over the zuccini – just like spaghetti . . . and enjoy!

finished
